in terms of absorbing the grammar and applying it, they're going to be about the same - they have a very similar structure.

for vocabulary, you'll eventually find in both languages words that you recognise as having the same rootword as some english words which is encouraging!!

if you want to learn how to SPEAK a language as opposed to being able to write it, again they'll be about the same. if you want to learn to write the language, maybe spanish would be a little easier only because it's much more of a phonetic language than french.

all the latin languages (spanish, french, italian) have a really different structure to english and different grammar rules to learn but you'll get there :)

Spanish

For me it is Spanish as there are so many people around me who speak it. I took French however in jr. college and the teacher seemed such a tyrant that I switched to German before I could get a failing grade in French. Yep, you are asking which is easier. Now if you happened to be in France and were considering this same question I would have to say French for you that would be the easier. Outside of those circumstance I would say that French, Spanish, Italian... any of the romance languages would stand about the same to English.

Otherwise, I might consider a reason outside of proximity to the language and the availibility of its speakers. Some business that requires French as opposed to Spanish... The study of something that you would find more on in French... You know, ideas along those lines. We just cannot tell where our lives are going to take us.

actually Germen would be the easiest. As for those 2 I would have to say Spanish, do to the fact it is easier to find a Spanish tutor. More people speak both English and Spanish then English and French unless you are living in Canada. If you are living in Canada I would suggest French (same reason).

learning Spanish

I've taken both, and let me tell you, Spanish is WAY easier.

The Spanish language is very logical and memorizing the spelling of words is much easier because all Spanish words are spelled exactly how they sound.

telefono = telephone

instead of learning that ph makes the same sound as an F, they just use f.

good luck! : )

Hello,

Since you are an English speaker, Spanish is easier because of the latin words which are very similar to Spanish.

WWW.BYKI.COM, this is a free software website to download spanish to give you a starting point.

Good luck

Well honesly it is easier spanish cause you hear more spanish speaking people than french so that means you can practice more your spanish speaking or written or reading with some one fluent in spanish.

Well, they are both latin derived languages, but french has more verbs and nouns to memorise versus spanish. It's all subjective my friend, there aren't more characters in the alphabet, and there are some synonyms in spanish you won't find in french. I suggest learning them both, that way you can be equilly frustrated by both of them. Or you could just learn Latin, and understand both of them rather well that way.
