Given that it's summer, I would try either a Rose wine or a White wine. You could try starting on White Zinfandel (if you absolutely have to) but maybe try a rose from France or Canada because those are even better than most of the White Zinfandel's out there. If you want to try a White wine, Pinot Grigio is definitely a good option but you can pretty much try any white except a Chardonnay that may be too complex for your first try. Try to keep it simple and you'll find delicious.

If you don't like wine I would start with white to develop a taste. It is usually milder than red wines. Pinot Grigio seems to have the most consistent flavor. It is faily mild, not too sweet and not too dry.
