Everybody has a different idea of interesting.
New York was OK but not that interesting; whoopee! a tall building!
I think a trip from Edmonton to Jasper and then to Banff and through the okanogan (you could see a Sasquatch and Ogopogo) to Vancouver and Vancouver Island is an excellent idea!
You get to check out large cities for the night life and the beauty of the Rocky mountains, the rainforest and ocean of Vancouver Island (the islands are my favourite).
Head smashed in buffalo jump is really interesting.
The hoodoos are facinating.
Lots of people love West Edmonton Mall (I walk there from my house sometimes).
LOTS to see and do
and I have only mentioned Alberta and BC!

There are many places that are interesting in Canada.
Here are some tips
Montreal - European looking city. Bilingual city. Many awesome restaurants. Museums. Shopping to do. Very cosmopolitan city. Take the subway to visit the city and the underground city.
Toronto - Busy city. Bigger than Montreal. Cosmopolitan too.Good restaurants. Museums and shopping. Take the subway to visit the city.
Nova Scotia-Cabot Trail
Gaspesie - Great camping sites and amazingly friendly people. Great seafood!
The list goes on....there everything depending what you are looking for.
My best advice would be BUY the Lonely Planet guide for Canada. You WILL NOT regret buying it .... its a must!
Planning ahead is the key ... read on a little and see what is interesting FOR YOU! :)

Canada is huge so you'll need a lot of time (and money) to see all the interesting places from coast to coast.
You can read about Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa in our Canada travelogue: http://www.thetravelzine.com

It truly depends on what you like, or would like to see. Canada is a vast land of many different sights.
If you want mountains, then you are best to see the west coast, BC & Alberta.
If you want the quaint villages of the east, you are best to see Newfoundland, PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick.
If you want metropolitan cities, & sights, you are best to see, Quebec & Ontario.
If you want to see the western plains then you are best with Saskatchewan & Manitoba
I haven't been to any of the territories, but if you have interest in the north, and inuit people, then Yukon, North West Territories, and Nunuvet.
We have many different lakes, attractions, and beautiful sights.
It truly is a beautiful country. Enjoy your stay.
I have included a link to the province I live in (Ontario).
Our licence plate says it all; Ontario, yours to discover.

Take a bus tour from Calgary, Alberta to Vancouver. You will stop in Banff, see the mountains, hot springs, etc. Its very beautiful. When you finish your tour in Vancouver go on a ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island. If that is too expensive then just go to Vancouver and Victoria. Don't bother going to Manitoba or Saskatchewan. Very boring.
