red sauce is made from tomatoes hence tomato sauce or ketchup brown sauce becauce apples and vinegar will make the sauce brown.

I should think it is to do with the ingredients of red sauce ,as it is made from mostly all tomatoes its known as tomato sauce.Brown sauce has no main ingredient ,but a combination of fruits vinegar & spices so if it were called something other than brown it would most likely be called fruit sauce.

I have actually had a waitress offer me "red sauce".
I asked her what it was, and she kept replying "red sauce" until I finally got her say it was tomato sauce. She then proceeded to explain that since not everyone knows what tomato sauce is, she calls it red sauce.
I was so insulted since she treated me as an imbecile. Who (aside from her) DOESN'T know what tomato sauce is?!
I told her what I thought of her and left the restaurant.
The point is, perhaps most people don't know what brown sauce is, therefore it is called by its colors, while everyone except for that stupid waitress knows what tomato sauce is.

Not a good question. Some red sauce is called chili sauce and brown sauce can be made up of many ingredients.

tomato sauce is made from tomatoes, with sugar and spices added. brown sauce (called barbecue sauce in Australia, where I am), also has onions and worcestershire sauce and other things in it that turn it brown. Because tomato sauce is mainly tomatoes, it has that name. Brown (barbecue) sauce is a more complex recipe

because no-one really knows what goes into brown sauce.
Ive only ever heard people from up north call ketchup red sauce though. I may be wrong, but I dont think us southern pansies call it that.

brown sauce can be made out of a lot more things: chicken stock, beef stock ... other ... stocks ...

Tomato is red...and it is mostly popular in this world. but it's hard to find any brown color vegetable.
