im painted a picture with a horizon and a sailboat riding near it and the theme is leaving and i have to write a statement, if anybody can help me out that'll be great

It means that it is going away

I would interprit it to mean that you were branching out and broadening your horizons.......kinda like you were off to explore new paths in your life and you were showing in the painting that you looked at the situation as calm, exiting, and happy. Also, I would say that your not afraid to face the future......otherwise instead of sailing into the horizon, you would have painted a boat on very swift water in a terrible storm. Good luck.

It depends whether you're concerned with a person on the ship or an imaginary viewer watching it sail away and disappear over the horizon.
