Offer something they want! How did one school get parents to come to parent conferences? They arranged to have someone there to help with their taxes!

Here are a few slogans to get people motivated:

1) Vote! It's the one time you can pretend to know what's best for everyone else without being told to mind your own damn business.

2) Vote! because there's a one in a trillion chance that it might be a tie, and your vote could be the tie breaker.

3) Vote in self defense -- others are voting against you.

4) Tired of the lesser of two evils. Vote for Cthulhu.

5) Vote for the guy you know is gonna lose. Then when the other guy gets elected and screws up, you can say, "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him."

6) Vote! It's a good excuse to get out of work (or school) for an hour or so.

excellent question... don't we all want our youth to get off their apathetic arses.

i'd start with making civic participation/duty and government a core part of public education.
other than that... put lots of commercials in between the trix are for kids and X-box spots that say "Vote" and tell them why it's important (maybe school house rock style... or war style -the propogation of fear hasn't stopped the Republicans).

I'd also make "world goverment" a requirement for all high school students for an entire year -preferably their last year when some of them turn 18.

As for now, I'd stick with MTV promotions and encourage kids to ask their friends/parents/acquaintances if they're voting.

I'd also find out a way to cut through the bull politics and speak to them in a language they understand -not in absolutes or moral "rightness" but in terms of what makes sense for them now and for their future. I'd focus on environment, security, and the economy (particularly job opportunities for the newly graduated ;).

But first and foremost we have to find a way to convince the lost and hopeless that their vote counts -not Vote or Die, but...
Vote. Lead. Make Some Noise.
okay... that's not very good, but there's talent out there... get some young people together to think about it.

i would start by lower the voting age, i found in my youth that i was excited and eager to vote and take part in the political process, then as i grew older and understood the process more i learned that it was futile, it matters not what you vote...
You individual vote only counts towards the electoral collage...
an assembly formed by our votes to formally elect the president and vice president...but it says no where that this assembly must vote in accord with the people.
So i ask you why do they bother to show us the polling results(which are inaccurate) indicating what the American public has voted...it is a farce, and the whole thing needs to be FIXED!
and by the whole thing i mean our entire government right down to the words that created it!!!!!!!!!!
VOTE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION.....
only then will the people regain control of the government, and only then would we be able to get the entire country to (especially the young) to vote in the next Presidential election!

Peace to all...now more than ever...

First I'd talk to the politicians and ask them to talk about issues that concern the youth of America. Part of the reason they aren't voting is there are very few issues that concern the youth that are being campaigned.

I would also try to get more news about the campaigns to be posted online, and also on more popular tv stations.

My son was apathetic about voting for the first time. When his candidate won by 1 vote he felt pretty important. I wish everyone young and old could have this experience.

The lack of real change is the single biggest reason why young people feel no need to participate.

Call for reform of the essential elements of the constitution and you have something to talk about.

If I was a Republican I would not want young people (especially not everyone) to vote so kinda low key I would have everyone re-register to vote.

MTV tried this with the whole rock the vote thing. Kids are just busy eating candy and banging their girlfriend or boyfriend. They don't care about politics.
