He told me his dad told him to get off the phone... but I know for a fact that his dad wasn't even home- we have a long distance relationship (going on for 10 months) and are only able to speak to one another for one hour per day. Why did he hang up early and blame his dad?

you don't know that. you weren't there and that is the only way to prove it.
now if he did cut the conversation short, maybe he just had a bad day and didn't want to talk to anyone. don't take it personal.

he was probably busy and didnt want to cut you off or end the conversation early so he made up an excuse to leave so he could probably do something important.
