Thats Guarana. An energy-giving Amazonian berry that grows both in Brazil and Venezuela. The etymology derives from the name of the Guarani tribe, while the scientific name, Paullinia Culpana derives from the German botinist who found the berry in the 18th century. The energy-giving part of the berry is guaranine, which is chemically identical to caffine.

Recent history - In 1995 Pepsi came out with its own form of guarana. It was a soft drink called Josta, but after poor sales, and the fact that no one knew what Guarana was, they pulled it in 1999. They even have online petitions to bring it back.

Later that same year, Pepsi teemed up with AmBev to distribute their version of Guarana (Antartica) worldwide while AmBev, the fifth largest brewer in the world, gets the rights to sell Pepsi within Brazil. A win-win, you might say.
