Get them a gift card from a place they are registered at.
Seriously.
When I got married I got a bunch of stuff I didn't register for that I didn't really want. I also got a bunch of stuff that I registered for that I later found out I didn't really need. The thing I loved the most was the gift cards from the places I was registered at, so I could go later and buy the things that I had figured out I needed, but I didn't get.
My husband won't let me buy anything from someone's registry anymore. We have to get a gift card from the store of their choice. He's fed up with all the "cool but impractical" stuff we got for our wedding!

I being a newlywed recommend buying them a gift certificate at Linen's and Things, Pottery Barn one of those types of home stores, that way you give them the freedom for them to decide what they want to get. To me that was my most favorite gift because when starting a new home together there are endless things that are needed for the home. They won't have to deal with a present they didn't like or a present that somebody else already got (it happens) and then taking those back to the store is a hassle.

well i would have to say, that they must have a lot of things already, so maybe a special coffee cup each with there names on it, or a vase that says congrats on your day, see what they need for the house, get then something that will bring them back to that special day of saying "I Do"
