Of course (but perhaps I am biased :-) ). Mechanical Engineers are involved in practically every industry. I feel that is practically the most versatile engineering degree. Pretty much every product has been touched by a mechanical engineer, but you can't really say that about other types of engineering. ME's work with electronics, aerospace, chemical-related companies, food companies, HVAC, structures, materials, cars/transportation, manufacturing & production, biomedical companies, and the list goes on and on...

Aero/Astro engineers... aero/astro companies
Electrical engineers... electronics
Civil engineers... buildings/bridges/structures, etc.
Chemical engineers... pharmaceutical, foods, chemicals...
Materials science engineers... materials.
...Just to list a few other fields.

Like I said before, I am a recent ME grad, so of course I am biased towards my own degree. But ANY engineering is a great field to get into in general. I have always felt that there seem to be a lot more opportunities for ME's than a lot of other engineering majors, however. We can work with practically every industry, and there will never be a lack of jobs in this field, because practically everything requires it.

Any Engineering is best, just getting it done is tricky.
no, Industrial engineers I have found involved in everything, Civil engineers also end up in strange places too. Industrial engineers do Health and safety on most jobs.
Many industrial engineers move into management positions because the work is closely related to the work of managers, Same for Civil.

No mechanical engineering is not the best stream u can chose. It involves a lot of physical work & in the end does not offer a lot of job opportunities.I am not saying tht it has no job opportunities but multinational companies do not prefer mechanical engineers.I would suggest u to take Electronics & communications or computer science.U cud also go for IT.These r the 3 streams which r on high demand. There r plenty of job opportunities in these streams which ensure great salaries.
So, my advice to u is not to chose mechanical engineering
