well it's all connected with history, and when jesus walked the earth, and when god would talk to prophets to deliver his message to the people. the reason why there are so many religions is because with time people have decided to go their own way and come up with what they think the RIGHT religion should be, but in reality there is only one, and that's CHRISTIANITY.

From the God's point of view there are two religions. believers and non believers. Simple.
God sent prophets to warn non believers to believe in one God but some believed and some rejected the prophets.
So there will always be two religions. The different divisions of believers like Jews, Christians and Muslims, i think they should stop fighting for their superiority over other group as their Lord is the same. They must try to make this world a better place which is the message from their religions.

It all started in ancient Sumer....in the area now know as Iraq. Several "god like" beings evolved the two primary "gods" being Enlil and Enki or EA - there are a host of other dieties as well - check your Sumerian mythos. Anyway each p[romised their followers that they were the chosen people. As strife existed between the dieties this snowballed into discord between the followers and still exists in todays world. For example Enlil became know as Jehova and Enki became Adonai. This also spread into the egyptian and aztec mythos. Enki becoming Ptah etc. But at their core most religions are man made or man interpretted and since we all have differing opinions and different views of the world, religions evolved in response to the needs of that current time period. As a basis most religions teach love but seem to have a very conditional attitude toward it. After that it is a free for all based on who wrote what, when. I guess you could say the one religion is Love...all else is interpretation.

Religion has been around since humans came into existance. Humans are naturally curious, and religion gave them a way to explain where they came from, and faith that there was something bigger out there. The reason that there are so many religions today is that people all over the world developed and fine-tuned their religions to fit in with their culture and moral values. Different changes in society have caused religion to change with them, and different beliefs cause people to choose the religion that suits them the best. That was a kind of ramble, but I hope it made sense! : )

Religion came from God. We are all free to believe what we want so as the human race grew more religions developed to satisfy a diverse population. That does not mean they teach all of God's revealed truth. Many of them have a lot of truth and some of them are completely erroneous. Some are even satanic. Pray to God to help you find the true religion then keep an open mind as you study various religions. You will find God's true church or maybe it will find you!

First, the word "religion" is only as old as the Roman Empire. What word was used prior to the Roman Empire to express faith and beliefs.... I know not.
Religion comes from the Fear of the Unknown: Religion started when our ancestors started to fear and worship the Natural Physical World and the powerful forces around them. Lightning, Volcanism, Monsoons and other Natural occuring events were considered the work of spirits unseen. Because our ancestors didn't understand the laws of nature and science, they created a reason why there is lightning, spontaneous fires (started by either dry conditions or lightning) and other events they couldn't understand; including (and most importantly) death.
Once our ancestors became an agricultural society, groups of people would share similar beliefs. These beliefs became the Gods. Two of the most earliest Gods were Gaia and Pan.
The Single Biblical God came a bit later (though Christians will refute this due to rote indoctorination) when Moses lead the people out of Egypt. Even this singlar God is thought to be a religion that was started by a Pharoah that lived a few decades ealier than Moses.
The reason there are so many are because people cannot agree to just one religion. Viewpoints are vastly different from culture to culture. But, it is believed by the truely enlightened that all the religions are worshipping the same God, though He may be called different names in different cultures. But, you have to remember... Budda WAS NOT and NEVER claimed to be a God. He only introduced a way of life that was similar to Christ... Peace, tolerance, understanding and love to all living things under the sun. It is only Western Civilations (Europe and US) that considers him a god (out of ignorance).
The only two religions that ARE the same is the Islamic and the Hebrewic religions. Christianity is similar to those two, but not entirely the same. Christianity "borrows" from the two root religions, but goes into the New Testament where Christ teaches peace, love, toloerance and understand.... which too many Christians do not follow. Islamic and Hebrewic does not believe Christ is the annoited savoir and King of the Jewish Nation. These two faiths believe Christ was just another prophet... though the Hebrews think he is more criminal than prophet.
One of the Biggest differences of the Islamic and other religions... Infidels are those that worship more than one God (such as Christians: The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost). If you only worship God (no matter the religion), then the Islamics will consider you enlightened (as long as that God is Allah, though he can be called "Higher Power," "Yehweh," "God," or other accepted name).
Even Christianity is not a single religion. It is broken into many Sects that are similar, but different due to viewpoints. They are only called Christians because they are supposedly follow one similar point of interest: Christ. Though this is not always true either. Most Sects of Christianity actually follow the words and advice of Paul. Whom, in my most humble opinion, was NOT very "Christ-like."
Paul was a very outspoken Male Chauvanist (before there was such a term), and very narrow-minded little person with low self-esteem, but big EGO. Which (again in my most humble opinion) describes many of those that call themselves "Christians."
Of course, do not take my words for truth. Research this yourself, and you will find answers that reflect similarly to what I wrote here. Or, you may find enlightenment of your own that is vastly different than mine or Christians.

There are many religions cause everyone doesn't believe in one thing. We all have common ground but don't like evrything that's on it, if you get what I'm saying. Who know's when and from whom religion as we know it to day really came from. Like a good fable, things get changed and added on to give it spice and hide the bad parts. Yet the lesson of the story always gets across.

True religion came from God. Some religions are man's thoughts and ideas. There are so many because many people get God's teachings and man's teachings mixed up. Yes there is one true religion.

Religions originated from the fear of unknown. Our ancestors used to see all amazing and un-explanable events happening around them and they felt powerless and afraid. So they came up with different Gods which they put in charge of different events. For example, God of seas, God of rain, God of death and etc. Later on all these Gods were combined into one and systematic organizations appeared to protect this ideas and set some rules. There are so many religions because they originated from different parts of the world and Hence based on different cultures. There is no one single religion.

Yes, there is just one religion - what ever one you believe in. Ask any religious person. Your religion is wrong and theirs is right. Your god doesn't exist and you are going to hell for not believing in the My God. Ugh! What is wrong with you people?
You do not need religion to be a good person. There is no such thing as sin - it is mistakes, misgivings, mental illness and so on... Believe in God... but not religion... it is man-made and corrupt and just plain makes you delusional. If one needs religion to be a good person, I feel sorry for you. Then maybe these religious people are actually the embodiment of evil?

Humans need sense of being, so they create gods, the powerful religions are created because they were willing to be violent in order to get there ways. For example, Christianity would never had survived if it hadn't converted millions of Africans and Native Americans, and the only reason that the Africans and Native Americans converted was because they would have been persecuted if they hadn't.
