Buy your cat a covered cat bed and in shelters as someone said they have little choice, it can be a sense of security. Try the cat bed thing. It will take a while to get used to, but may get your cat out of the toilet.

It could be that she has nowhere else to sleep thats clean. Make sure that she has somewhere clean to sleep. Is she using it as a litterbox as well? I had a litter of kittens who, when introduced to the litterbox, promptly all got in, curled up together, and went to sleep. After they started using it as intended they stopped sleeping in it. If the litterbox is very clean then your cat may have decided that the litterbox makes a much nicer bed that her pillow and also decided to relieve herself elsewhere. I have heard, however, from a few friends, that there is this brand of litter that was intended to entice cats to use use their litterbox instead of the carpet, but instead makes them want to sleep in it. All my friends who have it said they had to switch brands so their cat wouldn't sleep in it, unfortunately, I can't remember what the brand was. So, have you switched brands? That could be it, but if you've been using the same brand the whole time then you might want to take your cat to the vet to make sure it is ok just as a precautionary. Good luck!

Many cats do this, especially in shelters. In the cages, they feel more secure and hidden in the box. Some just like the feel of the litter. Does he/she have a box or cushion to lay in/on?

I have no idea why he/she would be doing that. Maybe its comfy to her. Maybe you should try buying her a cat bed and see if that helps. Hope this helps, untill then i would keep the box clean at all times.

Maybe because your cat doesn't have somewhere else it wants to sleep. It probably smells it's scent or something and just sleeps there from now on since it has it's scent on it. My kitten always plays with this specific toy I guess because it smells like him. I don't think you should worry about it though...
