The Opiate of the masses!

2006-06-14 17:24:28 · answer #1 · answered by jacobjmr 3 · 3 0

Though some of mankind claim that there is no God and they live on the knowledge of science, yet at times man is filled with a void of emptiness, which neither can he fill it nor the materialistic things around him fill it. To fill this void, people look to different sources to occupy the vacuum and most of this comes in the form of religion. Christianity is not a religion but a relationship between a Father and His children. A shepherd and his flock. If you are a dad and one of your kids got lost or was taken away from you, won't you go out and advertise and search for your son? Christian preachers take the Gospel to reunite people to what they have been missing, to the lost and regaining them back to the Father's home. John 3:16 - God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. To give love instead of hatred, to comfort and not to hurt, to mend and not to wound. Guess I would like to have a pusher throwing all this goodness at me in a world full of hate, pain and disaster.

It's addictive in the way that other social activities are. Some people need the comfort blanket of religion and the sense of being part of a wider organisation to help them deal with life just like people who go to the same bar every night.
It's harmless until they try to involve innocent people

Not at all. True religion helps a person know who he is and how he should treat others. You are probably thinking of the Communist doctrine that religion is the opiate of the people. This was said because Communism advocates murder to advance its establishment. Religion and Communism are opposed to each other.

Yes for several reasons. The mind needs a medicine for wrong expectations and beliefs or your depression will kill you. Also there is a god and the Jesus concept is real. Next you will have to deal with religion because churches and society control sex and money both of which you need. Finally are you the one to get rid of Christmas

It provides a support at times when you need a support. Sometimes people feel they need others to help them, and a religion is the answer as they find help like that.
Anything that makes you feel great can be addictive....and that is wonderful if its something positive like Religion can be.

There are also a lot of agnostic atheist anti-religion zealots out there that are hell bent and Devil driven to eradicate religion by all methods of persecution. They are your acid and pot heads with their brain neurons fried, so their addiction keeps the drug lords happy.

Just about anything can become an "addictive drug". Many people are addicted to food, to sex, to destructive relationships, to obtaining money, to shopping, you name it and someone, somewhere, is bound to be addicted. Who was it that said, "Religion is the opiate of the masses"...?

Religion is art. It's living mythology. It blurs fact & fiction. I love it, and I especially love the forces of light & darkness, and how you have the power to change sides at will. And what adds to the excitement is that (unlike "fiction") you are dealing with real potentials! If god gave his kids one great thing it's diverse religions to play with.

For some people it is. To believe in God is the main thing, you know that everything didn't come by itself and you can talk to people aboutit, but not to push anyone to believe what you think is right. Accept other people as they are or you nmight loose your people and also your friends.
