how there weren't any other races protesting? The whole immigration topic wasn't specifically aimed directly towards mexicans...only the mexicans were raising a stink about the issue. Kinda wierd huh?

On May 1st, I noticed alot of people were really happy and shopping. Traffic was great. Mexicans take it personally because 65% of the illegal population comes from Mexico. Of course they will raise a stink, they hate America but they love our money.

THIS ONE IS FOR PANCHA. There is no doubt that the largest percentage of "undocumented workers" are from Latin America, and of those, the vast majority are Mexican. Therefore it makes complete sense that it would appear that there were only Mexicans (which i know for a fact there were not). As far as the demonstrations themselves are concerned. If one day you are working and living a life that began and ended every day in toil and sweat, and suddenly you were broad sided with the threat of a being charged with a felony would you just sit back and take it?. I know I wouldn't. And i must say this, These people like Pancha are able to do something that i am not, which is, when they see a large crowd of demonstrators they can see individual faces. when all i can see is a huge mass of people.

It didn't even make a tiny glitch in the economy. Except maybe in their own communities. I haven't heard much out of them lately around my state. I guess impending deportation has them shaking in their boots. As for the protesters being pretty much Mexican. No there were Hispanics (Latinos) from all over Central and South America as well. And I did see some people from other countries, but very miniscule. Mostly they were Latinos.

Immigrants, legal or illegal, from other countries are more civilized, respectful and rational. You don't see them out waving flags from other countries, disrespecting our laws, leaders, our flag, our anthem, citizens, abusing our welfare system, acting foolish. Most of them had better upbringing, parents that know how to raise children to be decent citizens and to respect a country that allows you to come and make it their home, the right way, the legal way.

Well since the majority of illegal immigrants come from Mexico they assume it is all about them. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the term "illegals" is Mexican but I do know they hail from other countries as well and they also should be stopped.

Mexicans know that patriotic Americans are completely pissed off by all of this crap that has been going on for years now. They are on the defensive because they know its mostly about them. They are the ones who are coming by the thousands everyday. No other country or nationality is matching that and that stupid border is wide open for everyone.

There were flags and people from all immigrant-sending countries, largely from latin america, with a sprinkling of asian contributors, but because of geography and numerical proportion, the number of mexicans would be visibly superior, as for mexicans hating america, mexicans love the Ideals of america, thats why they risk life and limb to come here, whats hated is the work that brings them, but its AMERICANS that hate it, we'd rather be out shopping and enjoying the light traffic, right? while the gears of society are being moved by the silent labor of mexicans, venimos, vimos, y venserimos, el tiempo se acerca, justicia para todos

Did I notice?! Their march shut down half of my city to traffic, and many businesses closed their doors voluntarily during the march. By the way, the event was totally peaceful, and the marchers were almost eerily quiet.

They started at a local flea market, marched down a few of the main streets in town for about 5 miles, and ended in a local baseball park that used to be used for spring training. There they had a short rally, and then they went home. Total turnout was estimated by police at 50,000, though I'd say it was more like 10,000-15,000.

And they laft no trash along the way. I'm telling you, I was actually quite impressed.

I live in Lee County, Florida.

Hmm...did you see every single person in the protests? And were they all wearing signs saying "I'm Mexican"?

And in what world do you live where you think this immigration issue isn't about Mexicans?

I saw Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Salvadorans, Costa Ricans, Ecuadorians and more. I think Mexicans were probably highlighted in the news because they are closest to the border, but they were not alone.

I wish everyday was the same as may first. My life was so much easier on that day. No traffic at all, my classrooms were not so crowded. Life was good. I hope they protest again!
