PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals);
They sound like winners to me!

Seriously though, they're just like most self-serving whacko organizations that wish to preach to us yet really do little else.
If they really wanted to help mankind ( or animal-kind, if you will) they would put the signs down and roll up their sleeves and come up with viable solutions too what they see as "world" issues.
There really are more important issues that could be better served by their idealistic energy.
World hunger, medical shortages around the third world, educating the poor, etc..
All these issues seem a bit more important to me than spray painting someone's leather coat just because I ate it's original owner.
If they actually come up with real-world ideas and solutions, I may consider giving up a hamburger or two!

I can't stand PETA.

They aren't the animal rights group they once were. Ever since Ingrid Newark had taken over, they have become a cult-like group that seeks members more so than actually helping animals.

They spent more money on advertising, paying spokespeople, paint (to throw on those fur coats), etc... than actually using it for animals.

Plus their ideals are extreme. The heart of PETA is the freedom and ultimate release of ALL animals into the wild. This means no pets, no zoos. Also no animal testing, even for terminal diseases (such as AIDs and cancer). I don't support cosmetic animal testing, but I'm for medical testing.

My family over a rabbit any day.

If you are going to support a group, know what you are supporting and what they do.

PETA is a farse. Go support a real animal rights group.

PETA has some good ideas. For example I am dead set against the fur industry, puppy mills, and a big supporter of spay/neuter programs. However, as has been said before they things they do to carry out their campaigns are a bit extreme. I have nothing against those who choose to be vegan/vegetarian. If that is the lifestyle you choose, then good for you. But, expecting everyone else to stop eating meat is unrealistic.

I think there's nothing wrong with wanting to treat animals humanely and to stop practices that are cruel and unnecessary such as greyhound racing and testing cosmetics on animals. I think that animals deserve kindness and love. They are not on the same level as people though. We cannot expect animals to have complex human emotions. So, putting animal compaigns ahead of human suffering is ridiculous.

PETA has some good ideas, but it too extreme.

I do sometimes wonder about them. I have heard that they will go around to dog shows and open crates because they believe that the dogs should be "free". This is completely wrong in my opinion because dogs are domesticated and most would have no idea how to survive on their own. Not to mention that these dogs are pack animals who love us and only wish to be treated with love and kindness. I also read on their site that they feel we shouldn't keep fish as pets either because they are harmed by being stuck in captivity. I am a vegetarian and I am getting involved with animal rescue but I think these folks take it to certain unnecessary extremes. Don't throw my post in with all the rest of the people who have replied so far though because I believe that our animals deserve as many rights if not more than humans. I just don't believe in opening crates and flushing all of my fish. I completely agree with their stand on furs and on animal cruelty as well as certain points of animal rights. Also what CyberLord said is worthless dribble.

PETA (People for the Ethnical Treatment of Animals) are a wonderful group of people, who try all they can to make sure that animals are safe from harm. I once did a project on them... choosing a charity is hard and I think this one deserves a lot of respect.

They are a great group that draws support from many celebrities.
They are fighting to protect animals and to protect the planet, what more noble task is there then that?

Earth Liberation Front does a bit more, but they are also considered terrorists even though they have never killed anyone with any of their attacks on various companies equipment.

My brother is a professional magician and performed on lots of different cruise ships that are constantly going to port at numerouse countries.

PETA was so strict and so out of sync with the real world, that when my brother took his bird out of the country to perform on Princess cruise lines, PETA wouldn't let his bird back in the country... and they told him he had to give up his bird, or that it would be killed if he tried to bring it in the country.

Bunch of Nut Job, tree hugging losers if you ask me.

Make sure you get all your paper work filled out if you EVER try to take your dog out of the country.

Wonderful but a little to extreme… although they should follow their own ‘set rules” like the Vice President uses insulin tested on animals for heaven sakes.

i think it's a cool organization because they're actually helping animals and i totally agree that testing on animals and cruelty to animals is wrong.
