I am wondering what schools are the best for taking pathology, preferably not too far from phoenix; details on salary, if medical examiners don't make much more than a mortician it isn't worth it; and what other classes would I have to take for this pathway

A medical examiner is a physician. After 4 years of med school, you need to finish a 4 year pathology residency and then a fellowship in forensic pathology (I think it is 1 year, may be 2). For more info check out the website for the National Association of Medical Examiners at www.thename.org/ .

1. ME's do make more than morticians.
2. To be an ME, you first need 4 years of medical school, followed by 4 years in a pathology residency, followed by a fellowship year of 1 year.

So you like to spend time with dead people do you? Creeeepy.

I think you have to go through full blown Medical School to be an M.E. Anatomy, physiology, bio-chemistry, all that very difficult stuff, you may even have to do a residency at a hospital to get an M.D. before you can become a medical examiner.

Florida Metropolican Univ. has an online program.

Also, go to your County and/or State's office and see about interviewing someone in that profession. People like to talk about themselves and they may give you insight in what you need to do, how you should go about doing it, or not do it at all.

I always thought it would be good to own a funeral home.
