Many, many dogs are allergic to flea bites. Allergies are not cured, but you can reduce and eliminate the skin problems and the itching and so on by getting rid of the fleas from his body and his environment. A bath in a commercial pesticide solution made for dogs [follow the directions] and having a pest controller rid your home of fleas, plus any dog bedding and areas around the exterior where he hangs out, would go a long way to solving the problem.

It depends on what his allergic reaction is. Does he get more itchy or actually get dry red skin? Talk to your vet, they can prescribe shampoos that help sensitive skin and some sprays actually have a residual effect to repel the fleas. Does he get the fleas at home or at a park? If it is at your home, exterminate or treat the areas where he goes (inside and outside) at the same time that you bathe & spray the animal -- you will probably have to repeat the procedure a couple of times in a few weeks to kill the eggs & larvae that hatch out afterwards.

If it as at a park or somewhere public where he gets the fleas, can you walk at a different park?

There are also some pills that vets can prescribe that might help the allergies.

Just like human allergies, there are no cures for dog allergies. I had a dog for thirteen years with the same problem. I just did my best to keep fleas off her. You can also give them children's Benadryl (check with your vet for dosage). Which will help with itching.

There is no money in a cure so such a thing may seem hopeless. Howecer, you can get treatments for such an allergy and even preventions. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Check out such products as Frontline and that place online where you can get your pet's perscriptions fast and cheap.
