Last minute airfares are usually the full fare unless the plane is absolutely empty. The closer to departure time the higher the fare goes up. Anything after the 7 day advanced purchase you are looking at paying close to a full fare. That is where the airlines make money, the last minute walk up fares.
You want to be careful using consolidator websites like Priceline, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire, Lowestfare.com etc. These fares are HIGHLY restricted and can not be changed for any reason by the airlines. So make sure you READ ALL OF THE FARE RULES before purchasing from any of the websites.

i used to be a travel agent. it is hard finding a good fare at the last minute. you could try all the websites for travel or you may get your best deal either through the airlline directly or through a travel agency. Most likely the airline itself because when they get down to a certain number of seats left, they will close it off to travel agents. But, you also risk the airline overselling the flight, but the good thing about that is when you get to the airport, they may offer travel vouchers to give up your spot and you could possibly get a free rt ticket.

try bookingbuddy.com . It searches more than 10 booking engines without having to enter your itinerary each time.
