What happened?!?! Why is the egg broken in the first place? She will probably move on with her life. Birds don't really have emotional bonds with their offspring.

Pleople cannot assume unless they look at the broad picture. If she was in the nest and you tried to put the egg back and scared her off, then she may abandon it.
As long as there is still one good egg, she won't leave the nest- but she may push the other egg back out. If she does, this time, please leave it :)
Here's a little egg lesson:
Birds know long before we do if the chick will survive or if the egg is good. Yes, accidents happen, and chicks and eggs could fall out of the nest. Otherwise, if they don't feel that the chance of survival are good enough, they may push their own eggs and chicks out of the nest. Unlness you have personally seen the parent birds protecting the egg or feeding the nestling on the ground, there is a reason for them being there.
This is the hardship of captive bird breeders. It is hard to differentiate the good chicks tossed from the nest from the ones the parents are trying to ignore. Often, bird breeders will resort to hand feeding the chick, then find there are deformities. I have heard stories of chicks growing, however had under-developed wings and legs, some never feather out, or under a neocropsy, they find under developed lungs, little use of the stomach or a hole in the heart.

It depends on how the egg was broken...if it was just an accident of falling or maybe the mama pressed it too hard....she might not do anything...and probably will still nest the eggs...but if she smells somone's smell on it...she will kick it out of the nest...completely abandon it.

i think the mother bird will reject the broken egg and throw it down from the nest. even when a new born baby bird is being touched by a human , she would usually kill it and throw it!
i know its too hard to believe but its true, from what i have heard.

she will cry, in long mournful chirps. then she will go into hysterics asking such questions as "why lord, why did you take the good one, he was a good egg, never hurt anyone, why oh why". then whe will go into a deep depression and begin to drink too much. then she will blame the others, the ones that did hatch. she will become violent with them. in her guilt she will probably drink herself stupid and get behind the wheel of an SUV and die in a fiery crash.
