Gather some of you closest friends or family members together and ask them to help. I know you might feel like you are putting them out but if they truly care about your ocd issues then they will be more than happy to help. I know I would be. Offer to fix them dinner or something like that for their help. You would be surprised at how much stuff you have that you think you need but you don't and they can help you get rid of the stuff you don't need. Great rule of thumb (does not apply to clothing depending where you live.) If you haven't used it in 6 months get rid of it.

You sound like, exactly like me... well at the moment anyway. I have OCD too :[
The best advice I can give you is to just separate the piles and bring them into a separate room or something and just go through each item and throw it out! It doesn't matter if you "might" need it in the future, just throw it out -- it's better in the end. Then just try doing this with all of the piles and hopefully you'll be able to do the whole room. GOOD LUCK!
I suffer the same thing everyday... and it's really tough. Actually, I should take the same advice for me.. hah... take care! :)

You need to get someone to help. Find a take charge person you are close to. If you can spare some money go online and search for room decorators they charge by the hour or some charge a one time fee- and they are great motivators. I believe it is better to clean the whole room at once. Get it done, you will feel good about it and it wont end up a lifelong project. I hate clutter and wish more people would see that less is more and not have tons of stuff piled up on there countertops and shelves.

Well, lets see....instead of taking it ALL on at once, just go thru the pile little at a time. Day by day. Baby steps.
Just walk up to the items and say..."Do I really need this......Nah. Then throw it away.
If it is something you cant live without, store it in a keep-sake box.
Maybe some things you can give to friends or you can donate to the Salvation Army. Big brothers big sisters. can come to your house and pick it up.
You can have friends help you also.
Do you think you can sale your stuff in a yard sale ?
Thats a good way to get rid of your stuff and make money at the same time.
GOOD LUCK.

Start by getting rid of at least 5 items a day. If you haven't used it in a year or two, get rid of it. Then progress to ten items a day after a week or so. This makes it seem less like "throwing away all that stuff you need" and more like "wow I haven't seen this in four years, and i've gotten along just fine without it"

I understand your problem and I will tell you what I am doing to overcome it. I am taking a few things every day every single day and putting them in a box for a yard sale or throwing them away or taking them to the salvation army and getting a receipt for them. There are people that will come and organize your home for you for a price, but I can't afford it so I must push myself.. You will feel a little lighter every day and begin to relax. I am doing well with this project. Take a deep breath , you deserve a neat organized home, you deserve peace of mind. Now get to work, engage a friend to help, have fun and good luck.

Get a friend to help you. And actually let them help. Make up guidelines for yourself... if it is older than 2 years old and I haven't used it... it either gets sold or thrown away. If it's garbage it's thrown away. Etc etc etc. Tell your friend the rules... and then YOU follow them by allowing the friend to throw away things or take them to be sold. You can do it... It won't be easy... but you can. Good luck

Take a big box and put all the things you haven't used in the past year in there. Then donate it or have a garage sale.

I have OCD, and i have similar problems. this probably isn't what you wnat to hear, but the only way to get over OCD is to break your rituals. but i suggest getting a counselor if you don't already have one. Also, i suggest getting a storage device.

what if you got a storage unit? or put things in a garage or shed? It would be temporarily out of your hair!
