bettie, bettie, bettie....tss...don't you think you're a little too old for this?
"just believing" is what kids do. in Santa. Adults don't do that. Adults rationalize, analize (analyze?, analyse?, ah well, u get me).
Most peoples fear of the unknown is bigger than their ability to rationalize. That's when they start to believe. Believing is nothing more than an excuse to see the world as you want it. You do it, i do it, christians do it, muslims do it. it's nothing more than painting the world in way that you want it to be.
I want all people to have something good inside, so that's what i believe. Christians wanna believe that this horrible world is not their only lifetime, and they will be rewarder with something better. Therefor they believe.
When you believe long enough, the rationalizing becomes smaller and smaller. Specially when you're surrounded by merely people who share your beliefs. It's a constant 'proof' of the fact that your beliefs are the right ones.
That's why this answering-game-thingy is so good, it makes people (icluding myself) constantly reminded of the fact that we humans forget to rationalize things.
But hey, don't we all secretly miss the way we were as a little child? it feels so much more safe. And the biggest feeling that a person can achieve in this life is in the end not love, not happyness....it's the feeling of being completely safe.

It is like every decision you make. You weigh the pros and cons, sometimes you just go with your gut or heart or soul, follow the evidence or sometimes you just follow the crowd. It is about your need or preference for making decisions. Think of how you pick out what foods you like, what clothes you wear and what career path you choose. How did you make those decisions? Now apply the parameters to faith: What do you know about the religion? What do you like/dislike about the religion? How does participating in the religion make you feel? Does having a religion enhance or help your life, personality or future? Then once you go over the information if you make the decision to follow through by practicing or not practicing the religion keep in mind as things change you may have to re-evaluate your beliefs if your original choice to believe or not isn't satisfying your needs.

There is a difference between believing and understanding something abstract.
Let's use love for example. You believe and understand love, correct? How? Based on what you *feel* in your heart, right? It feels wonderful. There is something magical about love when someone tells you something love or gives you a hug, holds you, or maybe goes out of their way to help you that just makes you feel love in your heart.
Thats how you believe in love because it is your personal experiences that helped you understand that love does exist. You cannot see or put love in a jar. It's invisible.
This is the exact same thing with God. God is actually an extension of Love. It is even greater than the love we give each other. It is not just a feeling of love, it is also a consciousness, awareness, knowledge.
Just like our Soul. Can we grasp our essence of our Soul? We believe we exist correct? What is it that makes us think, love, speak, feel, dream, sense things around us?
Everybody is at various stages of belief and/or understanding the concept of God. I personally did not understand that concept growing up. I did not feel it. I could not grasp it. I was not like "Oh I don't believe in God." It was more of "I do not understand. What exactly is God?" Reading the Bible did not give me instant understanding or belief. I grew up in a Christian family, that did not work.
I had to go off on my own personal journey. It was my own personal spiritual experiences that caused me to *feel* something even greater, much more awesome that I have ever felt. I experienced the true essence of God several times in my life. It just happened naturally. I wanted more and more of that feeling. I just came to understanding and believing in God through my own eyes and experiences.
So I totally understand how one feels when they do not get it. I have been there before. I did not force myself to be like everybody. I was fine with where I am, but I was open minded to trying to understand who I am and why I am here.
Everybody has their own right time and place when they understand who they are.

It is a decision that you make, possible love and a vision of things beyond yourself and your existence.
Comparable to the many different ways that people live. Some people regardless of what they were told became something no one expected. Those people (good or bad) had a personal vision and something intangible that made them follow an uncharted path.

You really don't have to. It is one of the gifts God gives us at birth. We know in our hearts that there is a God. Even Satan believes in God... Absence of belief is just living in denial. Many want to not believe because it's easier so they say it enough to trick themselves into it. But in their hearts, they know. :) It takes much more than mere belief to get into Heaven though.

Honestly, that is something I work with everyday, however,it deals with faith. It's like, you believe that your mother would never kill you. You don't know that for sure, but you believe it's possible because she loves you...same kind of thing

it would help with some kind of context. im looking at this from a Christian perspective, and id say pray for faith. just be totally honest and allow yourself to be open like that. and ask other people to pray for you too. there can be real power there

sighs.... a very good question.
the Father draws you, and the Spirit convicts.... look for His wonderful Presence.
you must make a effort to seek God and hang in there.. seeking God's face. He is real.. and if you trust....
confessing with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe ***in your heart*** that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
again.. God is just one Person.. and he will send His Spirit into your heart.. and ***you must make the effort*** to seek Him.. and He will counsel and guide you with ***living words***. God reveals Himself to His disciple.
Peace be upon you, in love.
