like prepare for the next life and haunt places or people from past lives, or go and do things pertaining to this life. It could be where dreams come from.
by the bye, if you aren't capable of conceptualizing this, then please don't answer the question. Yours is not the answer for which I am looking. This is a new idea for me and I don't know if anyone out there thinks similarly, but I'm hoping to find an answer which can at least discuss the possibility, whether you believe it or not. If the question makes your head hurt, then please move on to the next question without comment.

Astrol projection in not generally a sleep event., it's a deep trance thing.
I find it amazing that there's an event which most of us spend a third of our life engaged in, and we know very little about it. Although every living species which could be regarded as having a soul tends to sleep

Your Q is interesting, as are most of them. This has started a new line of thinking for me. On the first impulse, I'd decided to send you a link to the Bhagwat Gita(specially the 2nd chapter), as I've done for one of your Q's, but I desist now . Will have to think before I reply, and I may if is open when I come up with something coherent.
Keep it up.

As you refered to in another question there are several dimensions.
first my symantics... which might not jive with others...
I believe the soul is more of a "godself", it is multi dimensional not limited to time or space. This being said I don't believe it needs any state of conciousness to "move" about and act freely.
But the spirit being tied to the body, that is released at death can have duel functions when the body is in the right conciousness or unconciousness. The spirit being tied more to the earth dimension can send spiritual energy or the "spirit body" of a person to do certain actions.
I believe that haunted places are usually energy that is left from a past life, and not the spirit of an unconcious person that is sleeping. If there is still unfinished ties then it is possible but unlikely.
Dreams come from all of the spiritual, mental, and physical realms. The unconsious blends it all together, and it is a trained mind that can differentiate the three.
The spirit might or might not leave the body to do things during unconsiousness. I think that it depends on the person, the level of safety the person has, and the motivations of the spirit.
I believe there are many psychic ties that become stronger at night due to the loss of conscious energy blocks that contain many of the subtle forces during the day.

I'm not really sure if I believe in astral projection though I've had dreams or woke up in ways that are similar to others' descriptions of such events however I do believe we have souls which are the eternal part of us. So, if you believe that anything is possible then I think anyone who had the capability and desire would definitely want to try to separate their body and soul before death as long as they are sure they could get back in and since dreaming is an alter state of conscious I would think it is the best time to attempt such a feat but I don't think anyone is going to prove to everyone or even half of everyone that they have successfully separated soul from body and returned again but I would love to see someone try to prove it and hopefully one day all the possible capabilities of humans will be analyzed and determined true or false by someone with reputable proof.

I have given this question a couple days of thought, looked at the possiblity of this being a thing that might occur for us on a nightly basis, where we would go, why we would go, what would be accomplished by the leaving of the soul from the body, and I can't think of any one thing that would be accomplished by this occurance.
I do not believe we would do this as a random thing. It would have to be with a quest in mind to do it. For it would be a hard thing to get out of the body and a harder thing to get back in, without some powerful pull opening the way in and out. If our souls were able to come and go as they would in our sleep, then I think they would be able to during waking hours too. Our soul is us. It cannot leave the container it is encased in until the container lets go of it. In death.
Our consious mind is our soul thinking, acting, learning, living. If it were to leave at night while the body sleeps, the body will die without it. There is no auto pilot installed with our bodies. In cases of deep coma where the only brain activity is to sustain the body to live with breathing and so on....if it were not for modern medicine making us capable of feeding and hydrating the body it would not survive. Modern medicine has made a lot of things fuzzy in this respect of when is the body a living person or just a shell kept alive by machines and feeding tubes. The courts are called in too many times to decide this question I believe.
So in summary of one of my famous long and winding roaded answers............No, I do not think that this is an possiblity that occurs during our sleeping time. I do not think the body can sustain life without the soul inside it. I think our body and our soul are inseparable until the body dies and it is pulled from the body and goes to Heaven where all will be known that is not known now by us.
Body and Soul are a matched set with one dependent on the other and if separated the body will die without the soul and the soul cannot exist in this place we live in without the body to protect it.

Yes, actually. This is what our souls do at times. Have you ever seen a place and just knew that you had been there before but did not remember when or how? That is because when we were sleeping our soul was off visiting other places. Have you heard of astral projection? Or dajavu? this is dealing with the soul aspect. Hope this helps answer your question some. Good luck in your journey of new awareness.

It sounds like you're wondering about Astral projection to me.
From Wikipedia:
Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) achieved either consciously or via lucid dreaming, deep meditation, or use of psychotropics. Proponents of astral projection maintain that their consciousness or soul has transferred into an astral body (or "double"), which moves in tandem with the physical body in a parallel world known as the astral plane.
Astral projection is often associated with the occult and the New Age movement.
Schools of thought
There are two general schools of thought on the nature of astral projection; these can broadly be defined as the mystical model and the phasing model.
Mystical model
The mystical model includes a large variety of belief systems and astral maps, but they are tied together by their belief that astral projection takes place outside of the actual physical body. A more subtle energy body is believed to carry the consciousness outside of the physical body, and as one progresses to more advanced levels of the astral plane, more subtle bodies are realized and consciousness is transferred in turn to each of them. (Other mystical models assume only one subtle body.) The subtle body is attached to the physical body by means of an energetic connection which usually takes the appearance of a silver cord 'plugging' into the chakras like an umbilical cord.
Phasing model
The phasing model, which was defined by Robert Monroe, contains the belief that it is impossible to actually leave the body in the truest sense of the word, and that the astral planes and the physical world are merely points on the long spectrum of consciousness. When a person projects, they actually "phase" into another area of consciousness and the locales it contains. This can be likened to tuning a radio to another station. This viewpoint can be seen as a logical progression of the philosophy that external reality is actually an internally created state (see Postmodernism, Buddhism).

Dude! Wake up! I think your dreaming right now! These concepts are as old as the hills. Man is constantly searching for life outside the body. The truth is there is only one time the, what YOU are calling a soul leaves the body. Death. The soul lives forever, the body don't. Where your soul lives well that's up to you. Your intentions to leave your body are simply to be stealth to this world. Do or believe what you wish, but the chance of falling into something way beyond your control is HUGE! It is not my head that hurts, but my heart! Best wishes and God Bless you my friend!

I definitely believe it is possible to visit other places and people in this state of consciousness It takes alot of meditation and there are many good books on this subject. I have heard that is especially easy for children to have nightly visits, even back to heaven before there soul connected with a body.
Small children have not yet been told things are impossible and are open to it.

The body is in an altered state when sleeping. What if you could travel to a remote location or 'haunt' the presumable awake living? I think that sleep is a way to work out the issues in our lives now, but I certainly wouldn't rule out working out issues from previous lives also.

It isn't. Nor does your soul 'leave' the body. Think it through. Does your soul require sleep? obviously it doesn't. Then what requires sleep? Your body and your ego mind. Dreams are from these and have nothing to do with the soul. They are not real. Don't waste the effort on trying to understand them, but see them as momentary lapses of reality. Awaken dear soul, awaken!!
