you need to wash everything that can be thrown into a washing machine- and wash on hot and dry on high 2-3 times...
This will get a lot of it.
Also the kids parents need to do the same at their home, or else they are just being transfered from place to place...

Also use rid repeatedly 2-3 times.

Somebody is visiting somebody's house where cooties are hibernating. You will NOT get rid of them until you use Clorox in the wash water where you are cleaning your linens. They need to clean their linens at THEIR house (with Clorox). Wash clothes you have been wearing. Check your brushes. Find out whose house they visit on a regular basis,'cos that is probably the culprit .A white lice egg is alive-a brown one is dead.
Quell is also used, besides RID. Do NOT keep it on the hair any longer than directed, because it will literally melt your hair off. You can condition your hair after the use. Use again after a week, to check behind the last shampoo.
You MAY need to take some beds apart and spray for lice eggs. It is SO worth it , because if an egg reaches your scalp(they climb the hair shaft), they turn into an adult. Then they crawl on you and can end up on your downstairs and you will SURE ENOUGH have cooties!
There you have it!
RID, QUELL,or whatever the drugstore sells.
FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!

Olive oil all over the head with a shower cap on and let it sit about an hour then rinse it out, make sure all bedding, clothing, and toys are cleaned (sprayed with lice spray and put in closed trashbags or in the dryer).

Have you asked the pharmacist ? There are many over the counter remedies.
Also you have to wash everything that has came in contact with the lice and throw away their brush or comb. Otherwise they will get reinfected.

I think at the store they have head lice medicine, I wouldn't reccommend just using a home remedy. Also make sure that everyone in the household uses the treatment even if you don't think you have it and lastly make sure you wash everything in hot water and clean everything real good.

A product called Rid, is usually pharmecist recommende, but I ended up using mayonnaise. Coat it on think wrap a plastic bag over there hair for about ten minutes. Then comb out all the nits. Wash hair thoughly, and then check again for the nits. Wash evrything in hot water and bleach, thier sheets, pillows, all bedding.

The woman whose kids I used to babysit used mayonnaise on her kids' hair (to suffocate them). My mom used Nix instead of Rid (she was allergic to Rid). Make sure you rub it into every nook and cranny. And comb the nits out very carefully; you may have to use your fingers. They cling very tightly to the hair. You'll have to do the treatment again in around fourteen days. Keep checking the child's head daily.

Also, make sure you WASH EVERYTHING. Clothes, bedding, even furniture covers (and shampoo/vacuum the furniture itself, sans covers). Put things you can't wash (such as stuffed animals and headphones), in plastic bags for around three weeks. For the headphones, buy new foam covers for the ear pieces.

I know it sounds like a lot, but lice can be a HUGE problem. I had issues with it in around third grade.

what you do is you go to camden county hosptel
and ask the people at the mane biulding if the can give you some lice shampoo. it's not all that hard and I've heard the shampoo really works but after you get the shampoo don't get excited and think you don't need to listen to what the doctor or farmaist has to say.

If you don't want to go the tradtional route and use Rid shampoo
or similar product, (which contain highly toxic lindane) try one of
these:
men's hair tonic such as protein 29, Old Bay, etc. which contain
ether as one of ingredients. Saturate hair starting at roots, where
you see most nits/lice then wrap hair in plastic wrap tightly, leave in place 30 min., wash hair in hottest water you can stand. This smothers lice. After washing, apply mayo to hair and use fine comb to remove nits.

kerosene- This will work, but drastic, apply, pref. outside, make sure don't get in eyes, rinse with water, wash hair.

Tea tree oil

After you kill lice, mayonaise works well to remove nits with any method plus you have nice condtioned hair.

Wash and dry all bedding, furniture covers, afhgans, stuffed animals, etc. in hot water and highest dryer setting to kill nits.

Anything with a texture, lice LOVE such as corduroy furniture
covering,etc.
Anything you are not able to wash, bag up in a large garbage bag
or one of the new Ziploc big bags and seal TIGHTLY and store
pref. outside in garage for 30 days before reopening

Anywhere else where nits may be you may have to spray with
one of the lice sprays, but try to avoid, toxic chemicals, and small
amount in can for price.

If you have any pets in your house, be sure and check them too,
and apply Revolution or Advantage (from vet).

And lastly, after you get rid of them, if your grandchildren are girls, consider either cutting their hair in a shorter style , or wearing it up in a secure style for school such as a french braid that will stay in all day.

Lice like dry hair, so make sure you keep hair in good condtion.

Good luck, I know what I nightmare this can be, I went through
this several years ago, consider the hairstyle, the thing is the
lice are epidemic in the schools and it is very frustrating to have to go to all of this effort then send them back to school and they get re-infected right away.
