I am portrait Photographer who wants to migrate to digital 35 MM Camera. Cannon 20D which the price has gone down and the upgraded Cannon 30D with few extra touch like spot metering, big LCD screen, etc. Which one would do the best job for the money and in the long run?

Have you considered the 350D (aka Rebel XT). No, seriously. It has the same sensor (8MP with a 1.6 focal length multiplier), and I'm not sure you need the extra features of the 20D/ 30D. Do you really need spot metering and 5fps for portraits? Won't center weighted and 3fps suffice? I appreciate that the 350D looks and feels like a toy, but if it gets the job done just as well for a fraction of the price..
If you're willing to spend a bundle, consider the 5D: with more megapixels and a full frame sensor, that camera has real advantages.

You could buy the 20D and buy a light meter and still pay less than paying for the 30D. The light meter will give you a more accurate spot metering. If your eyes aren't bad, why pay that price for slightly larger screen.

It also depends on how much work you do. I always carry 2 cameras to my shoots because you never know when something will go wrong with your primary camera. Save your money with the 20D and buy an extra camera that is interchangeable.

the 20D is the best choice. All electronic item prices go down after being on the market 6 months. There won't be much difference between the 20D and 30D, these minimal upgrade being only 1 version difference.
