Wether he uses an electric razor or a razor blade, he needs to use a good aftershave. It closes the pores after shaving and protects against the bumps afterwards. A hot towel before shaving will open the pores, and give a closer shave, but it is important to use an aftershave to close the pores.

My son is seventeen, also. He shaves with a razor. His father spent a lot of time teaching him the right way to shave. He gets a good shave, no bumps and rarely cuts himself.
Just make sure that your son has good quality razors, a shave cream or gel (let him choose) and either you or his dad spend plenty of time supervising him while he is learning. Once he is comfortable with shaving, leave him to it.
I know it is hard to do. I had to and I wasn't happy about it, but now, I don't think twice about him shaving. In fact, half the time I am not even aware that he is doing it.

A razor is the only way. Just make sure he uses a really good shaving cream and after shave that will prevent razor bumps. And tell him not to pick his bumps if he ever gets some.

First off, he's old enough to think and do for himself(unless he doesn't want to). I'm sure he's capable of using a razor. The bumps on his face are normal. They are called zits, pimples, blemishes and ingrown hairs. If he's worried about cutting himself, have him try and electric razor.
I got my hubby the Norelco Cool-skin razor. It dispenses a small amount of shave lotion with the touch of a button. It smells nice and is less irritating to the skin. Nivea for men is a great skin care line. Have him check it out. As far as aftershave goes, he shouldn't really need it after using the Cool-skin but if he does, a simple oil-free moisturizer would do the trick.

There is no other way to shave, unless he wants to use nair for his face, but I doubt it. Unless its medically unnecessary that he doesn't use a razor thats the most common way. Ive never heard of a guy using nair, but Im sure it can be done.

yeah, razors generally work best ... but if your son is black he may be prone to problems with it ... if he's already getting the bumps I would suggest that you consult with a dermatologist and get some good advice on this

Electric Shavers work well or, if he's not embarrassed, venus razers work well. (The regular ones not the battery ones.)
