Practice writing your name and then write your Thank You note.

I would see if the pen writes by doodling or something. I don't think that counts as writing something so then I would probably write my name a dozen times to be sure it writes. I know it sounds egotistical but its true. I probably wouldn't write a thank you note because I would forget or have something better to do. In the end I would, most likely forget, who gave me the pen and the person who gave me the pen would bring it up and I would have to say thank you face to face. How embarrassing does that sound!

I have never received a pen but thinking of all the bad things that happen because of it I will probably not send pen as a gift!

Depends who gave it to you. If it is one you received in one of those direct mailers from a cause or charity I am sure they would like it to be a big fat check. Otherwise a thank you note would be nice.

Probably their name or their signature. People tned to use their signature as a measure as to how well a pen writes.

According to a study I read somewhere, most people will end up writing their name first.
