My problem is I'm most likely going to have all teeth pulled. I have a very bad gag reflex on the roof of my mouth, top of my tongue, and the back gum area where my wisdom teeth are. I was wanting to know what type of options I have as far as something I can wear in my mouth to help chew? I'm also very paranoid about choking that I chew my food more than I should. I'm worrying that if I get my teeth removed and can't wear dentures that I won't be able to eat most foods since I won't be able to chew good. I'm already underweight so I can't afford to eat less.

I need them pulled due to cavities. My dad's whole side of the family has problems with their teeth. Even my 3 yr old niece needs to have dental work done. I started having problems with mine around 10 years old. My family just didn't have the money to take me to the dentist and also he wasn't to good of a dentist but was the only one our dental was covered by. Right now it's mainly my front teeth that have the problem. Most of them are broken away. My back teeth have been filled when I was 10 but they do need some work on some holes that have formed. It's just mainly the cost of having them fixed is the problem since my boyfriend doesn't have dental insurance. He will be the one paying for it. I might see about having 4 teeth pulled that are my worse ones and see about trying to keep my other ones till we have some more money to get my others fixed. One of the reasons my teeth got bad quick was due to a lot of medicine I had to take when I was younger.

You don't say why all your teeth may need to be pulled.
If you are able to keep any teeth, i recommend that you do so. When you lose all teeth, your bone begins to resorb and you lose "vertical dimension" (the space between your nose and chin) and your face gets a sunken in appearance.
However, if you need to have all teeth pulled, talk to your dentist about your options. Depending on why you are losing your teeth, implants may not be an option. Usually, dentists want to know that you will be able to take good care of your implants before they will place them. And, if you're losing your teeth due to neglect, you probably won't be an implant candidate.
Your dentist may be able to fit you with dentures that don't make you gag. I have an awful gag reflex as well, but there are some tricks to get you through! If he is able to get you dentures, he'll have to take impressions (and that will more than likely make you gag). Ask to swish with chloroseptic spray before hand... this will numb your palate and throat so that your gag reflex is less sensitive.
Good luck, and I hope you're able to figure it out... there will definitely be an option that works well for you... you just need to ask the person who is looking in your mouth! :)

I also have a bad gag reflex. I always make sure to be the doctor's first patient of the day (like 7:30 a.m.), and don't eat breakfast. That way if you do gag, you will just dry heave. I know that in itself isn't pretty but its better than, well, you know... I just had an onlay done (similar to a crown), and the impressions were the hardest to deal with. Make sure they use warm (not cold) water, and there are numbing tablets you can take beforehand.

Has your dental provider spoken to you about implants? They are pricey, but it would be a lot better than dentures.
