It depends on a few things. The bar can be as short as until they get a new visa to permanently. It depends on things like how they ended up leaving the United States after their initial entry, how many times they were here illegally, how they entered the US, and the number and nature of criminal problems they had in the US. In most cases, the bar is for 5-20 years based on the above conditions.

If they were here illegally for 6months or less it's 5 years.. if it was more than 6months It's 10years..
The only exception is if the Illegal gets married than he/she doesnt have to leave the country to adjust the status.

They say a couple days. But if it was up to me, let me tell you no one would vote for me, they would be ineligible for life once caught. The second time around is 20 years in jail right now, I don't think it's close to enough.
Curious, I've had naturalization lawyers tell me a day in mexico and the ones that had to go back, not ten years. It's a start.
