I think it is because the coaches used to take there teams for a turkey or chicken dinner , and the coach would ask ' what position did you play ? " ..and the players would answer , for eg, "left wing sir "..and the coach would cut off the left wing , give it to the player and say " here, well played"and then again "and you sonny? " .." quarter back sir " and he would cut off the drumstick and give it to him " well played son...." and you played like an **hole son..and he would cut off the parsons nose and give it to him...
a fight erupted one day because there were more than one guy that played like an ***hole and there is only one chicken or turkey bum...so to be fair in future the practice was stopped to invite football players to dinner ?
