I am NOT suggesting that the links below have, in any way, any relationship to the self-revealing statements you've made. I just like Ayn Rand to give me a personal jolt when I wonder something about myself.

A trusted clergyman, therapist or counselor can go a long way toward helping you discover who you really are, where you came from and where you are able to go.

You have already taken the first and most important step, admitting that you want to be happy, but you have some fear. You have admitted that to yourself.

One of the great benefits of talking to other people is that their life experience has been different from ours. It is not a matter of other people being more experienced (though that may be true in some areas) but simply that their experience is different. This provides something called 'perspective'.

When an artist uses perspective to measure the elements in a landscape, say, that he paints, this enables him to compare them and make sure that he accurately represents them on the canvas. When we use perspective in experience to reason about ourselves and individual experiences which seem of great importance to us, we are enabled to compare them and accurately represent them to our own judgment so that our judgment is not distorted by our perceptions.

You might need to try a couple of different counselors until you find someone you are comfortable with. But the rewards will be beyond the reach of your imagination. You will be unwrapping the greatest gift you have been given, your personality, and making wonderful new discoveries about yourself.

You have already taken the first step. Good luck on your way!

There is no single thing that can define who you are but there are many things you can do to get a better sense of your self and who you are. You can always listen to music. There are so many different types of music out there with so many feelings and emotions behind them, written by real people like us. You can also try something you normally wouldn't do...you might like it and find it's a part of you that you hadn't realized before.

Sounds like you may have a personality disorder. Try consulting a psychiatrist.
