Noradrenaline and adrenaline are both catecholamines and are synthesized from the amino acid phenylalanine. Both compounds act on the same type of receptors to produce similar affects. The receptors are called adrenergic. However noradrenaline (norepinephrine) is produced from neurones while adrenaline (epi) is produced in the adrenal medulla (the is in the suprarenal gland above the kidneys).
