How you live your life is what matters, not just spending a small part of it in a place of worship. God is in you. Respect yourself, and you'll automatically respect others.
Overall, there is more goodness in every human than badness. A person reacts or pro-acts to a situation based on his knowledge, his level of understanding and his environment. So even the wrong doers who go to church or a religious place have more good than bad in them.
Also your perception of right and wrong or good and bad may differ from someone else's.
I repeat myself - all humans have more good than bad.

Being a good person is one of the most important things in the world, but it's not the same thing as knowing the truth about the nature of the universe. I suppose there are people who don't particularly care about that issue (though it's almost impossible for me to believe it). Then too, being good won't save you in the end, because however good someone might be, I've never yet met anyone who was perfect. Any beliievable idea about God would have to include the idea that He is perfect in every way, and the infinite purity of that standard makes it impossible for even the best and kindest human beings to even remotely be worthy to approach Him. If we're to be right with Him, then it has to be His doing, and not ours. That's why religion is important. Morality isn't enough.

The answer is so simple. No matter what your spiritual views and beliefs are, we all should be living by certain morals and ethics. I am an Atheist and live my life by the same morals and ethics that are taught by churches. I am kind to others, don't lie or cheat anyone, I give to charities and treat others as I would like to be treated. Ironically, xtians and Atheists often live by the same code of ethics- but just for different reasons.

I hear that!! I could not agree more with that statement. SOme people seem to think all they have to do is go to church and read the bible and they are good people. Yet they arent nice people and they dont seem to respect others views or religions. I really wish people would be nicer and treat others kinder.

Its not about living by the teachings of the church, its about living by the teachings of the Bible and of Jesus Christ. Many Churches throw in their own things. The word of God is the truth.
Keep in mind that nobody is perfect. We are all sinners and all people are equals. Good works are not the key to heaven, Faith is. God does not judge people on how many good tasks they do. That is expected as humans should live like Christ.

I love your question...
I'm not a "religious" person. I am a born again Christian.
Religion is man's way of trying to reach God. Relationship is God's way, through Jesus Christ to reach man. Jesus pursued me when I was still a sinner. He still pursues and woos me, today. I am truly blessed.
In Christianity, it's about a relationship with Christ. I'm not talking about Sunday (and Wednesday) Christians...I'm talking about true Christians that want to live their lives like Jesus. No human is perfect. I still screw up, but then I immediately fess up.
If people go to church and they don't live by their teachings...You will know a tree by its fruit. Check out (NLT) Galatians 5:19-23 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, 21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control...
It's always good to be kind and respectful to everyone. However, remember not to judge for you will be judge by the same measure you judge.
Grace to you and God Bless

Religion addresses many avenues
-Most Important is your believe in God.
-You ought to good things to go to heaven
-You ought to treat others as you would like them to treat you.
-Utilizing what Earth resources in a good way.
Being good to others does not guarantee heaven nor believing only in God and mis-behaving.
A good person is who combine all the facets of religion.
We do not judge others as only we judge what we see but God judges each of us actions and what is truely inside us, so do not bother by others actions, and focus on how to go heaven.
You can be a better model other than these two bad models. So be a model that others say about "Her heart is full of believe and her actions really expresses what is in her heart"

Your religious background doesn't predict how one's behavior is going to be. We all make choices thankfully due to free will. It is the person' inner being that assumes what kind of treatment will be given towards others and oneself.
