Is there a difference depending on who gave you the card (family/friend)? or, The reason the card was given to you?

My sister gave me a card for my birthday and was kinda angry when she thought I threw it away, so now I'm wondering.

My rule of thumb is that I always display the card until the day after the special event it was given for. If it is a sympathy card or a milestone card, you may want to hang onto it for sentimental reasons. I am not a sentimentalist or, rather, I do not place too much importance on material things, so I tend to throw away all but the most important cards.

There isn't a specific number of days you keep cards. It really depends on the person and how sentimental they are. Woman tend to keep things like this longer and men usually feel once they've looked at it and read it they're done with it so it served it's purpose. I've gone through both phases and after awhile there is just too many to keep. Periodically I'll go back and read through them. The ones that mean the most to me of course are from my Mom.

I keep cards for about two weeks and display them. If their from someone in my family that it old and it's a special occasion like a graduation, wedding, etc. I keep them. You can scapbook, if your sister got upset about it keep hers and throw out everyone elses. Maybe make a little sister folder and keep all the cute stuff she gives you in it, next time she's around you can bust out the folder and it will make her feel special. Maybe take a picture of the two of you on your birthday and put the card by it. Or scan it onto your computer and then throw it out if you don't like clutter.

I used to keep all my cards until I filled my ceder chest with them. I never look at them once they are put in there so one day I threw all of them away except the ones from my hubby, son and grandkids. All others I kept a week or so after the occasion and then discard them.

I am not sentimental, so I understand why you threw the card away. The correct thing to do is to keep all of your cards/letters in scrapbooks. The scrapbooks don't have to be expensive, and you can format them any way you like and keep them in a closet, if you like. The reason for keeping them is that they are part of your life history, and one day your grandchildren will want to see the letters and cards to you, because you will be important to them. If you ever become famous they will have monetary worth. My grandmother took the letters and cards that her grandmother had saved during wartime and used them to write a book. It is in its second printing ! Good luck !

Well, it honestly depends. I like to keep my cards around for at least 2 weeks, especially if they are from a family member. I set them out and look at them. So I would say 2 weeks is a pretty good limit.

I throw them away about a week later, unless I really like the card (especially funny, touching, etc.). Then I keep it.

properly i recycle them after like a month of exhibiting them. yet your theory's sweet. i imagine those which have the most thoughtful messages and are available from a loved one should be saved. Or those with the nicest covers. some thing else may be recycled. you're assisting the planet besides as having some thing sensible to look decrease back on, :D

Don't worry.

Just keep them as long as they mean something to you. If they don't, throw them away as soon as you can. Don't store garbage.

And don't mind what your sister tells you. She is going to get angry at anything you do that doesn't makes her feel special because she is a narcissistic.

It depends. I still have cards from my last birthday and that was in October. But they are from my sisters. It all depends.
