I agree about Hill's Science Diet. Beagles are notorious for digestive problems and our vet swore by this.
Also, be careful with the treats you give your beagle. Hill's makes a variety of treats that are healthy for the dog. Believe it or not, a couple of vets recommended giving our beagle baby carrot sticks as treats. They were good for him and he loved them!

Talk to the vet about what puppy food is best for your dogs breed. Be very careful, beagle's are the BEST dogs, but if you let them, the will eat way too much & become overweight & unhealthy...
bred & raised beagles growing up..

Hill's Science Diet Puppy Original would be best. It has essenitial vitamins that aid in brain and eye development ( I think it's called DHA and ARA). It also helps in proper bone development. At 12 months of age you should switch to an adult food. Be sure to read the label as far as how much food to feed according to the weight in your dog. This well help prevent obesity.

From what I've determined researching this subject, I'd say Canidae which is made without all of the colors, by-products and other chemicals that so many dog foods have. The key is to search for a human-grade, premium dog food and stay away from excessive by-products and grains like corn that dogs tend to be allergic to.

Go with NutroMax. Sometimes a little hard to find. Check a Tractor Supply store if in your area or other pet store. If wanting to go on the cheap side, Purina Puppy and Dog chow. The Nutro Max has no fillers.

Be prepared to pay a premium price for a quality dog food. You don't want to feed your dog a food with corn fillers in in.Corn is very fattening for dogs. Also you need to remember that dogs are carnivores by nature so pick a food with a lot of meat ingredients.Garlic and fish oil are important to have in the food also. My personal choice for my kids is Nutra Max. Nutra Choice is also good.As I said,it is expensive for good food...but your baby is worth it right?

A great brand is Hill's Science Diet. They make food specifically for different life stages and with different ingredients to foster intelligence and eyesight for young animals or other benefits for older animals in the adult formula. It is more expensive, but it's not that bad. You can get it at any pet store, but not Walmart as far as I know. My vet feeds it to her animals too. It comes in dry and wet food for cats...not too sure about dogs.
