there are LOTS. JL Audio, Sony, Pioneer, Kicker, JBL, Polk Audio, BABB, MB Quartz, Kenwood, Hi-Fonics, the list goes on forever. The best sound comes from the ones that YOU like. Go to some stereo shops and listen to as many as you can. Bring a CD with you that YOU listen to and ask them to play that. This way you will know what sounds good with your type of music.

The best speaker is the one that sounds the best to you.
"The Best" anything in the audio world is completely judgemental. There are too many variables that will affect the sound. Not to mention that there are dozens of speaker brands that the vast majority of people will never hear, just because they're not mainstream and stocked at Best Buy. People who say "this is the best" and "that is the best" are really just giving you their opinion.
In my opinion, most of the brands listed are average at best. I'm sure nobody's heard of most of the brands that I consider good. But at the same time, I'm sure most people wouldnt want to spend the money that they cost either. (Which is exactly why most people will never hear about them. They're not targeted for the mainstream.) But anyway, I'm rambling now.
Bottom line, YOU should go out and listen to different speakers and different brands, and decide the one that YOU think sounds the best.

If you're looking for something that will last long and sound very good og with Pioneer. They have one of the best line of speakers but the only thing they dont have is a good line of Subwoofers. For some reason their subs dont really do so good, but the speakers are excellent. they give you precise level of sound and its clear no cracking or hissing. They will make any car sound good.

Well it really depends what kind of music you like to listen to. no matter what its never a bad idea to hook up a few amps and some subwoofers. please dont go with sony...they are really overated and kinda cheap. Pioneers are good, so are kedwoods and JL audios. If u want something a little cheaper, go with Infintiy. I actually would pick these over higher priced brands such as the other ones above....check out this website it is fantastic and EXCELLANT customer support...

Best?
Try a subwoofer, on Alpine system
Alpine are expensive, and can cost average of 4-500 dollars, not including speakers. Full system, you might want to look at 1500 for the best
Best of luck, don't get shot

If you can't tell by all the other answers, this is a very subjective answer. What is best to me is not best to someone else. I am partial to MB Quart, Eclipse, and JL. Then it also depends on what kind of speakers you are talking about.

I like Diamond Audio... and Focal isn't bad either.... for subs I like JL's and Kickers....you'll be paying a pretty penny for anything really nice... but the mid-level stuff is nice enough for the majority of people and the best might not be worth the price.

You could have the best speaker in the world, but if it's in a crappy box it won't matter.
