Go Airlines (Mesa Air) is touting a special inter-island rate of $80.00 RT per person!
Look into www.iflygo.com
Remember to give yourselves plenty of time to a) retrieve your baggage from baggage claim in Honolulu, then b) re-check them into the Go Airlines Ticketing Counter, and finally c) wade yourselves through airport security once again to get to the gate.
Aloha and may you have a safe and pleasant journey.

Definitely look into everything already recommended. Aloha and Go! airlines are having a fare war right now and that $80 roundtrip price will be the best you can find. It's a fantastic deal compared to what we have been paying for the last several years.
Also, have you considered making an ammendment to your original flight to get you to Kona? Or cancelling and rebooking directly into Kona or with the interisland airfare included for (hopefully) less money? These may not be an option due to fees or whatever, but you could look into it.
Also, you didn't say how soon you were coming. In mid 2007, we may have a ferry service (hawaiian superferry). Now, this was originally supposed to be available this year, so I wouldn't say this is your most reliable option, but I just wanted to mention it.

The only way to travel between islands is by air. Unless you have a friend or know someone who has a boat who will be willing to take you. There is no commercial ferry between islands.

The best website for airfare cost is kayak.com. They do a real-time comparison of airfares including the big Hawaiian airlines (Aloha, Hawaiian, etc).
Try kayak and you'll be surprised to see how thorough it really is.
