The reason that cats on friendly terms with each other lick the ears and head is just mutual grooming. They can't do it them self except by licking their paw and rubbing it across their head and ears. Mutual grooming is a way cats show affection, friendship and respect to each other.

Cats lick each others ears esp if they are around each other because it is very hard for a cat to clean its own ears and cats ears start to smell if they are not cleaned so another cat will sometimes lick each others ears.

WEll the reason why they lick each others ears is because the mother cat had tought them how to clean themselves. I found out from my vet. If u need to ask me any more questions u may email me at kathyd35@sbcglobal.net.

either it's some crazy way of trying to be dominant or the kitten is just cleaning the cat's ears.

they must be good friends. but you are right, the dog is showing dominance. I wouldn't worry about it. (oh and just wondering, Luna Lovegood?)
