Actually the Christian teachings of the Catholic Church have almost always been unpolitically correct and counter-cultural. So I don't think we are or ever have been fashionable in the United States.

One example, the Catholic Church is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
- All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
- The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in fitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
- The elderly, sick and dying in objection to assisted suicide and euthanazia
- Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty
- The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.

With love in Christ.

Sure, A gold cross around your neck is a fashion statement, A pretty wedding in a church is a fashion statement. Going to the stage play NUNsence with your friends is a fashion statement.
Recounting stories with friends and family about the torcher in catholic school is a fashion statement.
Too bad it is all tradition, no real BIBLE based knowledge of what God really wants eh! Never read the Bible, by the way, Very Unfashionable if you are Catholic...you may start Questioning the Holy Roman Septic Tank

The short answer?
First the long: I believe that here in the US, big Non-denominational churches and no-name Baptists churches are the "in thing" based on attendance and national demographics. While many here in the US label themselves as "Catholic", statistically most do not attend church regularly or at all.

Short answer: no, unless you live in South Florida or some other ethnic neighborhood where most of the immigrants are Catholic by heritage or by choice.

Hope this answers your question.

It's not a fashion. It's a belief. It doesnt need to be flaunted.

I think it never should have been, and isnt now.

No, we're going towards Buddhism, although paganism is making strong inroads.

It's so hard to be fashionably religious.

I don't think religion should be considered a fashion...If you believe or do something only because it is "in", then I doubt if it is part of you.
