My suggestion for you is to do a photo gallery of your family including your pets if you have some.

I am a decorator and I was asked to do one for a client. We did several sizes of her and her husband and two daughters and her pet dog.

We did them all in black and white with cream matting and black frames. She gave me several of her favorite pictures, spontaneous ones, not posed, but natural.

I had them printed at Kinko's in different sizes for a couple bucks.

I bought the frames at target, they have great frames for reasonable prices. I laid them framed on the floor to get on idea how they would look on the wall. I placed the different sizes to achieve a rectangle shape on the wall. Keep in mind it was a good size wall in her livingroom.

She was quite happy with the end results. It was pretty easy to do. I ended up using about 12 photos for the gallery, all different sizes to give it an asymmetrical form. You can achieve the same with the 5 x 7 photos, it will of course be more symmetrical.

Hope this helps

I am going to assume you would like to display many different photographs. First I would take all of my photos that I want to display and put them onto the floor. Then start grouping them into a pleasing layout... some will be vertical some horizontal. Keep re-arranging them until you get a grouping you like.

Just hanging 5x7 photos on the wall is going to get really boring. Try to add verity by changing the size of your matts... add other items that would be of interest to the overall grouping... if these are family photos you probably have a favorite drawing the kids produced... add that to the mix. There are a lot of extras you can add to make the whole thing interesting.

After you have done the layout let it alone for a few days... then come back and see if you really like it. If so then decide what kind of frames you want. Is your home modern or classic... do you like wood over metal... do you like the look of floating frames? These are all considerations.

Page through several of the home and garden magazines and look what is in this season. They always have wall decor ideas that you can borrow.

Good luck and have fun.

Use different colored mattings that go with your decor. Buy the 8X10 matting with the 5X7 cut outs. You can get them at Wal-Mart for like 2-3 bucks. Or a Ben Franklins for like 1-4 bucks. You can frame them or not. Framed is better but can bewithout frame for a different funky look. Depending on how many you have, don't over power your wall with too many pictures. remember less is more.

I think that museum frames are a good way to show off that size photo. These frames are simple and normally black with a large white mat. They especially look good with black and white photos. Another idea is a rectangular frame with three frames inside. You can usually find frames like these two at Michael's or Target.

you can get frames that are clear and the photo appears to float in the middle.......there is a frame but glass for a backing too so you can see right through. sorta cool.
