ADD is serious stuff and as a result really needs to be diagnosed by health care professionals who are familiar with it. Beyond the usual things that non ADD people associate with ADD : the difficulty in finishing projects, restlessness, being accident prone because you weren't paying attention, . getting bored easily the usual suspects . There are some really interesting things that are dead give aways; the need for distraction in order to focus, the ability to hyper - focus on a task for hours on end. Lots of angry outbursts as a result of frustration or confusion- and since you're doing a hundred miles an hour sitting still, difficulties in social situations.
I sincerely hope you do not have it, but if you do get it treated and learn to laugh at yourself because you will do some really dumb things because of it.

you need to be diagnosed by a docter, but make sure you go to a few because some might over-prescribe for a.d.d. If you can't focus on one thing for long periods of time or are falling behind in school (if u r at school), there is a chance u have it. but be carefull it could related to other problems to do with diet. go to the docter phil website he talks about it.

Firstly I read you question as (how do you know if you have attention deficit disorder?) That said, you may want to go to http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/adhd.cfm
good inforamtion
When we diagnosis my son, they did several battery of test and exams.
Child Behavior Checklist Scale (Achenbach and Edelbrock)
Connors Rating Scale
Doctor’s Physical Exam
Physician / Psychologist Clinical Interview (Child)
Physician / Psychologist Clinical Interview (Parents)
The Dennis Clinic through AR Children's Hospital and UAMS told us he scored at the low end of positive for ADHD inattention
They did not recommend medication(and as a nurse I would not have let him take it R/T side effects) so we use behavior modification; ie he sits right in front of the teacher, she often has to redirect him, he has shorter assignments, etc.

My ex had ADD and Bi-Polar though he took his medication faithfully everyday he would still have racing thoughts, forgot things easily if he didn't write them down, trouble concentrating and sometimes a lack of interest in his favorite hobbies and pastimes.

Usually the teacher will write the grades in the top corner, otherwise you'll just have to ask them.

First, you have to see a doctor and be completely honest about your answers to the doctor's questions. I NEVER would say self-diagnose. That's never a good thing to do . . .
