The Hotel (located on 80 West Street) is a few miles from Times Square, a bit too far to walk. However, it is easy to get from there to the Times Square Area by subway. Most of the subways in the city (at least the west side lines) go to Times Square.

It is not really dangerous, but the financial center area is sort of quiet and deserted at night.

If you're staying at the Marriott, they can probably advise you as to subway routes, or can hail you a cab.
I've never been there, so I don't know how dangerous it is. Period.
