I don't have any strange home remedies. But I am an EMT and I know the best thing for a sunburn. Go to the store, get a spray can of solarcaine with aloe. It has lidocaine in it which is a topical anesetic. Trust me. I am irish and burn so bad every summer. It works in a matter of seconds. It cost about $3 for a can.

Greg is right, tomatoes really do work.
All you have to do is blend 1-2 tomatoes in a blender, along with some ice & rub it on where it burns with a washcloth.

If you have some aloe vera that works too. Also you might want to put some lotion on it, so it doesn't feel so dry and start peeling.

Hope you feel better :)

Try aloe vera gel. Real aloe vera, not some imitation. Applly liberally and your sunburn till the gel is soaked into your skin, then apply again til the burning is gone.

you should not put ice on it (if you cool too much, which can easily happen with ice, you will end up having frost bite) butter isn't a good idea either...
aloe vera is cetrainly not a bad thing, the ultimate treatment is a camomile cream/lotion. you won't need much of it, and the skin absorbs it very fast too.
an other possibiliy is a lotion called traumeel (dont know if you have that in the us).... but it's the best.

I've heard of most of these and they work. 1st take some aspirin (unless you are under 20...Reyes Syndrome, then take non-aspirin or ibuprofen). This will kill the pain, just like a headache. Also, warm black tea bags. Put them on the burn and it takes away the tightness and pain.
