I heard a coke bottle will be around for more 10,000 years so a fishing line will last several hundred years you would think.

good quality lines may last for long but if you do not want to lose a catch it is best to buy a new one, this is if you will be on a major fishing trip. but if it's just to spend some time by the river any line will do.
