Get either a texture perm or get a loose perm w/ the largest rods available. A spiral is awesome.
Head to your closest salon, pick up a bottle of Matrix Smoothing Serum. All you have to use is like a pea size amount and don't let it get on your scalp. When it gets on the scalp, it mixes with natural oils, and hence makes it appear greasy. Another great one is Silky Sexy Hair Frizz Eliminator, Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops, and Scruples Renewal Serum. Hope this helps.

For straight hair use Curl activators like 'World of curls' sprays, gels, mousses for curls. Go to a beauty supply store for a variety of brands. Keep braids in overnight or 2 days, take down and it will have a wavey look.

No perms on guys!!!! You can try putting some product in it and scrunching it up to dry, that may give you some curl and may not. Try Frizz Ease by John Frieda.

For the second question, with my decently long hair (for a boy) I just get 2 kinds of conditioners and i mix em, then I just get enough ti fill my palm and wash my hair with it. It comes out wuite smooth and loose and as my ex said, it smells good. So yeah, try that and it might help.

John Frieda has a great line to add curl/ wave to your hair, and he has this great friz- ease stuff, it works really weel, my hair also happens to be really, really straight and has a tendency to friz too, i love the john frieda stuff, it can be a little expensive but it really works!! Good Luck!!
