so i dyed my hair too dark. i'm very fair and i have freckles and dyed it a natural black. i'm not sure what i was thinking. how do i minimize the "washed out" look? i don't have money to get it professionally stripped and i don't want to put a ton of make up to balance the color. any ideas? thanks..

a friend of mine suggested using a toner to tone it down a bit, anybody know if this would work?

Well unfortunately the best thing would be to see a stylist, (I am a hair stylist15 yrs) if you try to strip your hair at home you could cause more damage and that could result in a very short hair cut. If you can't stand the sight of your hair color you will come up with the money some how, I have known many people to be in your situation myself included once except my hair was literally fire engine red. It took forever to have someone at my shop to fix, and even then I needed to use deep conditioning treatments for weeks. In order to lighten your hair I would use a clarifying shampoo to see if it breaks the color up , sometimes it does enough to use a lighter color on it, but my first recommendation is still where you will get the best results.

You can go to Sally Beauty Supply and get a decolorizing system but if you do there are a few things you need to know. First you may not be able to get all the color out . Secondly depending on how much lift you get from the kit you may end up with any number of undesirable shades. Orange is the most common. You will need to recolor the hair to tone out the unwanted tones and you will have to use a shade darker than the shade you lifted to. Also please be advised stripping hair can heavily damage the hair. Use a professional moisture rich conditioner after you have completed the process. Good Luck

I Would Just Keep On Washing My Hair Eveyday Until It Comes Out

There's a product called begin again, which you buy from supermarkets. It's about $10, and doesn't smell great, but it works well. If you don't want to strip whole lot, just do bit that frames the face, if you have long hair.

Dye your hair another color. Once my mom turned her hair purple instead of the brown it was supposed to be and her hairdresser told her to go find the exact same color as her natural hair. She dyed it that color, and it looked great. So try dyeing back to the natural color it was before.

Wait a few weeks, and then use a light redish color 24 shampoo hair dye on it...
Eventually once it keeps growing out it will get lighter and lighter!
What were you trying to prove with the black #1 dye?

I like momnsouth's idea of highlights. But I think dark hair around a pale face is very dramatic and sexy. And freckles are cute too.

Can you get a highlighting kit in a slightly lighter shade, like a medium-dark brown? Then when it grows out enough to color it again, go just a shade or two lighter each time.

the only thing i can tell you to do is that if you dont have the money to do anything professionaly, wait at least 2 weeks or untill your roots grow out at least 1/2 an inch, then buy a blonde color, your hair wont turn blonde but it wont be as dark either.

If you have enough money get it highlight, it will really lighten it. If you can't just style it in alot of different ways. If the color doesn't look good hide it with an awsome style. Distract everyone from the color. Good luck.
