I have cable and satellite, but I want to get local and nearby channels using one of the old antennas. The antenna can't be too high because I live in a condo, so what are the other variables I can play with to get maximum reception? Any secrets or professional tips? Thanks!

Okay - first go to town hall and make sure you don't need a permit. That'll help you out right there.

Second, you're going to need to attach, (if the antenna doesn't have it, and it probably won't) one of those two-wire horse-shoe converters to co-axial wire. The co-axial fitting (or screw) must be greased along the threads and outside to prevent water from seeping in (you can get it at a Cablevision store or RadioShack). Then a boot must be slid over it and sealed with electrical tape.

NOW, here's the hard one - One horse-shoe goes on one point, and another goes on another point - test out which way gets you better reception on the GROUND.

Do you mean rabbit ears, a metal coat hanger will work if I remember, You want a bow tie for uhf also known as an FM dipole antenna the you need 300 to 75 ohm impedance matching transformer so you can run coaxial cable to your receiver. A signal amplifier might help if its a long run of wire. better get your neighbors kid to move the antenna in different positions while you see when the picture is clearest. you can get all of this crap at radio shack except the neighbors kid of coarse.

have a chimney? try using a round metal pipe strapped to the chimney and attach the antenna to that. Want an alternative? buy the device that uses all of your electrical wiring as an antenna by plugging into your outlet

Bro, Dont worry about doing anything fancy, Just get some electric black tape, take a penny and fasten it to the cable and it
will come in clear as long as it sits tight against it. Believe me, it works.
