Hi, I can totally sympathize with your dilemma. Prozac, the medication, causes a depressed person, who may not have been taking great care of themselves to have an appetite again. In other words, it increases your appetite. I take a med that does the same thing. I know that when my brain says I am hungry, it is lying to me, so I portion my food, and eat sensibly. If I go out to eat, I eat only half of what is on my plate, asking for a "doggie bag" up front and removing the other half before I eat. Then I don't gain weight. I have been on Prozac. It was a good medication for the time I was on it. Other things came along and it lost its effectiveness. Just a suggestion to be ever mindful that the side-effects may be less horrible than the alternative, but if they are too hard to live with, tell your doctor right away, don't stop taking them, and have your doctor switch you to something else.

I lost weight while taking Prozac. Usually about 5 to 7 pounds a month. However, this was not entirely due to Prozac. I had more energy and kept busy so that I did not think about eating so often.

no you are not talking in circles. prozac killed my mom....violently. she could never figure out who she was, let alone what was causing her issues. it reminds me of a car salesman....."here, take this little pill and your life will be great and happy". B.S. maybe in light of your fat issue, exercise. our body needs to be worked, or else we dont sleep. thats how we are all wired. but we either work so much, or we spend way too much time in front of a computer, or a tv. look at all those perfect people on tv. we have been trained to live vicariously through our prime time friends. but then you get a glimmer of hope (or yourself) and want to live your own life. then live your own life! stop believing what some doctor thinks might be wrong, and let that wondeful gift known as your brain do its job and think through this situation. you'll feel better once you get rid of the caffine and sugar, and the tv and the happy pills. we all have poopy days, but if it wasn't for the bad days, we wouldn't know a good day if it bit us in the butt. PEACE

I gained about 30 lbs on prozac as did my mother. It made me feel unbearably strange but my mom greatly benefitted from it. Everyone is different. If I were you I'd call and ask for zoloft instead. Zoloft is supposed to be similar to prozac and does not cause weight gain.

I took prozac because I had anorexia and gained weight only because I was eating more and you won't feel out of it. You need to calm down about gaining weight thatis why you are taking the pill. Just take things one day at a time and you'll make. I didand you can to!!!:) Goood Luck!!!:)
