Yes, all the time. Usually they are of the kind that are called private or devotional - they are used by the person and it has an edifying effect on their inner spirit. This kind of tongue doesn't have to be interpreted because it is not in the church setting (1 Corinthians 12-14) and not for others' benefit. If it is done in a church it should be interpreted so that the whole church can benefit, otherwise it causes confusion and people miss out on potential encouragement.
However, I have heard occasions of tongues-speaking where it was done properly, was interpreted by someone else, or the same person who spoke. Sometimes it's a general sense (hence interpretation, not translation) but I have heard of cases where the tongue and the interpretation followed the speech pattern verbatim.
I speak in tongues myself, use it all the time in private. I have not used it in public because I haven't as yet been prompted to by the Holy Spirit.
The bible gives much evidence that it is for today. It is used to edify the person primarily, is desirable because Paul wished everyone would have it, but when used in church it needs to be exercised with some guidelines for the sake of encouraging the church. 1 Corinthians addressed a situation where people were usin the gift but not in love; Paul didn't forbid using tongues, but he said they were the least useful unless they were interpreted because no-one can understand the tongue without someone telling the church what is being said. There are no scriptures that say tongues will cease, except when the Lord returns (1 Cor 13) and scripture suggests that tongues can be a known language or an unknown one. Despite what some say about tongues not being for today, or tongues being fake, they cannot account for the fact that many do, and that it isn't all by fakers because some of the most respected christian leaders today and in history do speak in tongues - Jackie Pullinger, David Wilkerson, Nicky Cruz, etc.

Question 1. Yes. Question 2. Yes. Bot were fake. Question 3. No. Question 4. Speaking in tongues was the ability to speak a language or understand a language not your own to help a person come to the Lord or understand what was being said of the Lord. The gobbledegook of "speaking in tongues" Paul says was heavenly words that is a sin to repeat.

Tongues can be safely translated as language. Thus, it's greater to look this as "Speaking in languages". It was once mostly utilized by the early church to have good fortune in missions going into lands wherein the humans spoke one more language. This is without doubt not a massive trouble with the expand of Christianity amoung all international locations. The rough aspect is now performed. Though I suppose it's nonetheless round someplace, I do suppose it has ceased up a pleasant deal. There continues to be many humans who suppose this can be a individual prayer language among you and God. This isn't actual neither is is imperative when you believe approximately it. God is aware of your middle with out you speakme a phrase. It is a reward, identical to prophecy. Not all people can have it. Thus, it's unsuitable to anticipate if you don't talk in tongues you're now not stored. This is a instructing in alot of church buildings proper now.

Yes I saw someone speak in tongues. It was very scary to me at the time as I was only 9. I didn't understand what was going on. I do understand now what the Bible says about speaking in tongues. I have never spoken in tongues myself and believe it is largely the Pentecostal denomination that does this.

Yes, usually an older member of the church interprets, but only certain people chosen by GOD can understand what someone says when speaking in tongues. And only when the interpreter is lead by the spirit, does he interpret. I, myself have spoken in tongues and it happens mostly when I have alot to unburden myself with or when I am cautious(because of others close to me may hear what I have done.) Then Jesus knows my heart and allows my the gift of tongues so that I may speak freely without hesitation to GOD. I cannot describe the language itself, it is like no other. Hope this helps. Pentecostal church is where I was when this happened.

I may be wrong, but I think it means you have reached another spiritual level while in prayer, and that anyone could speak tongues once they have reached that level. So basically you have to be deep into prayer..and like anything else believe. I was present several times when people spoke in tongues, at first i thought it was kinda scary...but after a while i understood that they didn't even know what was going on themselves they were caught in this spiritual realm praising, praying singing and saying whatever it is that they were saying :P When it was all over they returned back to speaking and singing and praying normally....
I've never spoke in tongues, it is a gift...and I may not be worthy to have it..if i ever will...well that isn't up to me..it's up to God...

Yes, I dated a fundamentalist Christian in 1988 who spoke in tongues every time he prayed aloud. I don't think the goal is to interpret it. My impression is that the speaking in tongues was to praise. The actual words don't matter.
We attended fundamentalist services on Sunday where most people also spoke in tongues. One Sunday the minister swore he'd be able to get all of to speak in tongues, so those of us who couldn't went to a special session with him. It didn't work for me or the woman standing behind me.
The strange thing: we were having (forbidden) sex (fornication, in the words of the fundamentalists). I recall kneeling down beside the bed once and he was praying in tongues. We were both naked. It seemed blasphemous at the time and still seems so to me.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. The Bible basically says that ANY of the spiritual gifts ( the gift of tongues, being just one of them) should be received with humility, and not misused in any way. In other words... if you have been blessed with this gift, don't just go rattling off a bunch of "tongy soundin' words" and think you're all that. Only speak in tongues, if you truly and genuinly feel led by the Holy Spirit, to do so.
