You have a male manager who is being promoted you are offered same position, only offered under different title as senior supervisor. I am already senior by 25 years and 15 years experience and been doing the manager job while he attended school and worked another job elsewhere. Is this fair?

Sorry but, nothing is fair. Sometimes experience trumps education or degrees, sometimes it is the other way around. Sometimes it is just a personality choice. Sometimes it is personal, sometimes it is professional. It happens, if your that unhappy find something else. Sorry if I didn't help. Your welcome if I did.

There doesn't seem to be any motive for 'discrimination'.

The same situation can be represented by two people differently and we can make opinions favoring both of them, if we hear separately. In this case also, the way you have represented the situation, it 'looks' like it is NOT fair. But we haven't heard the other side of the story.

May be there is just some reorganization in your department and due to that the role/title are changing and that may be the reason the male person has been reassigned to new role/title....(and not actually promoted)....

But certainly there doesn't seem to be a motive for discrimination here.... the motive being 'money'......In your organization, do they regularly pay female employees less than their male counterpart.... if no, then here also there is no discrimination..... just sometimes when we are hurt, we start assuming things....

don't feel bad.... do your job and your work will get noticed.... in this world, we rarely notices if the work was done by female or male... but how good the work was done....

Absolutely Not Fair.

You have the choice to accept it or reject it, if it is a means to an end that you are trying to achieve, go for it, but if it will cause you more stress then don't.

If there is any sizable benefit in it (a raise, stock, room to grow) go for it. If its not a real increase and its just more work with the same benefits that you currently receive then Dont.

If you think that Talking to HR or the Boss (the people offering you the Job) and voicing your opinion, about the differences in what the man & woman are being offered might Help do that.

The ultimate decision is up to you!

Is it fair: Absolutely not - Is it the way that the world most often works: Absolutely.

Unfortunately its all a game and you cant win if you don't play.

So weigh the pros & cons and make your move or stay still babe!

Nothing is "fair" in the World. No one owes you anything. As far as Big Business is concerned, they want the "better qualified" person for the job.

Now, with you working at the store, you "know" the store.

But, with this younger man just coming out of College, "he" will have all the new ideas, and techniques, that are being taught. He will bring them to the table and enact them, where as you, have been there, doing the "same ol same ol" and are not "fresh" with new ideas.

You may "think" that you are "owed" the position, but, if you arent inventive enough to impress your bosses with ideas that will bring in a lot of businesses in, then they will choose the younger fresh approach, then some one who has been there and is either against new ideas, or will continue along the same track that has taken the Company where it is now.

What ever is "good" for the Company, is the best thing you should be worried about. Not personal gains, or incentives. Its the Company that is the benefieciary of all the employees working together to make it better, and not one person wanting personal gains, because they have "been there the longest".

I know, its tough to accept. And, its also tough if you have a Union, because that Union will fight for you tooth and nail, because of Senority. But, ask yourself, (honestly), is it really better for the Company if some one with new ideas comes in, and takes over?

My Sister in law works for a Company and I talk to her over the net, and I tell her this, as she should be more interested in doing all she can for her Company to succeed. I also told her to learn all she can, so that she will be invalueable and indespensible. She is, and now she is second in command of her division of the Company in question.

I don't think it's discrimination. people are so quick to jump at that. Perhaps he is getting the better title because he is actually better qualified to take the company into the next generation. Maybe he has a better attitude, more vision, and fresh new ideas that, in the long run will help the company excel. Growth is good.
Jumping to the discriminationation idea is clearly a sign of a disgruntled employee. Who wants someone who is so easily disgruntled to be in charge?

It could be that his education gives him an edge. Or it could be sexism. If you think it is sex discrimination then check with an attorney. It might be that the company has a policy that a person with an education make more money, then there might not be much you can do.
Sounds like you need to do some homework with the companies policies and maybe ask an attorney for some advice.

II would like to think it has nothing to do with him being a male. Maybe it is because he has a college degree and have learned additional skills the company needs. But in this society we all know that is not true. Men are often paid more and advance quicker than women.

No, it's not fair, but it is reality. Women have always been underpaid and overlooked. It's better now than it was 25 years ago, but it's not perfect and you just have to deal with it. You can put up and shut up, or you can file an EEOC action and take the abuse that will entail. Do whichever makes you feel better.

well for ur info we are living in a very unfair world. world have not change yet and all this time man always have the chances while we woman are only the last thing that their gonna thinks of. anyway keep up ur good works and be the best
