It just makes it easier for them to ignore God and excuse away their choice not to follow Him. It is difficult to grasp the concept of the enormity of God and many people simply cannot wrap their brains around it.

i would say it is more of prejuidice rather than legitimate statement.

do note, people tend to make derisive remarks on things or people that they do not like. This is typical behavior of juveniles and some 'adults', if you would. As explained by some of the chaps earlier, they do it because they cannot understand it, aka 'wrap their minds around the enormity of God', if you would. Which can be translated to an instinctive response of calling Christianity "dumb", as they would not want to appear foolish.

A typical case of "he who shouts thief first, wins the lawsuit", in a chinese proverb.

Another likely possibility is that, though there are Christians with secular academic degrees and doctorates, there are times where Christians are unable to properly articulate themselves and communicate the basis of their faith when they are called upon to do so.

As they are unable to explain themselves and yet do things in a fashion deemed un-intelligent by the observer, it would be very likely that the observer would call the Christian dumb or stupid. (anyone ever tried to be kind to those that hate them? or love those that spitefully used them? would the non-christians be able to understand why? Just saying that "Jesus said so, and i just do it". does not equate to an "intelligent response", as far as most people are concerned.)

That would cause the observer to eventually sink into a a habit of stereotyping any and all Christians as dumb or unintelligent.

Although there is no absolute scientific proof that God exist, research and archeology have proven the Bible accurate, time and time again. Noah's Ark was found, and as far as i know, a book and a documentary movie has been made of it.

Evidence of a great flood was discovered to have occurred about the time of Noah. The tomb of Joseph, the 2nd man to the Pharoah, had been found, and the signet rings of authority are proof of the identity. And the list goes on.

Although it is not possible for anyone person to 'defend' their faith when question, it is necessary to reply in a calm manner with intelligent answers. And yet be wise enough to back off when you come to a point when the other party is considered hostile and 'closed'. 'closed' meaning that they question your faith, not with intention to learn or find out more, but rather to seek an occasion to pick a fight, whatever.

that's when you should tactfully back off, or change the topic where possible. Afterall, you are supposed to be wise.

Keep your faith strong!

People who believe in God and don't believe in God can think christians are dumb. I think they are DUMB because they are NARROW-MINDED. They think they know the truth. Most don't even know where they got the truth, most will say Jesus gave it to us and God. But do you know how it was put together? NO, do they care NO. They believe in something and they don't know how it came to existence. They don't even study what was going on during that time period. Only 4 gospels whatever, there were more than 30 gospels back then. So that is my reason for christians being DUMB!

It is because they are unable to see another's viewpoint that they don't agree with. They are so unable to see the other's viewpoint on this matter that they cannot even imagine how anyone could hold the view without being a complete idiot. It is based on the paradigm in which they are viewing the religion, and it is based on a sort of black and white thinking. It is also possible that they have not been exposed to intelligent Christians in their lives, for whatever reason. So they do not know enough about Christianity to understand it.

Well dear,
some of us are dumb. And some of say dumb things that bring out hostility in a lot of people. Just make sure you are in the part of us that keeps your heart in the right place, and your mouth closed at the right time. Someone will ask a question that you will have the right answer for. Then speak. Don't worry too much about rude folks.

Because, viewed objectively, Christianity is simply one more in a long, long series of mythologies used to control, shame, and terrorize human beings into voluntarily submitting to the authority of a Christ, a king, a president.

And if you believe that the Pagans, the Greeks, the Aztecs, the Hebrews, the Zorastorians, the Muslims, and the Scientologists all got it WRONG - what makes you think you got it RIGHT?

Probably because people who don't believe in god ask obvious questions about what christians blindly believe, and think that believing those things without even wondering or asking why is dumb. But everyone has the right to believe whatever they want, if you believe something and you're better for it, no one should call you dumb.

Because it's really stupid to believe that imaginary friends and enemies can help or hurt you. It's like being afraid of the Easter Bunny or Santa Clause or Satan.
But my guess is that mostly people tell you're dumb when you show no respect whatever for their beliefs and tell them that your nasty christian god is going to hurt them for pointing out that your religion is none too smart.
The lesson is, be nicer and folks will put up with your stupidity.

Well, let's start with the fact that "I am confussed (sic) by this" is a statement, not a question. It requires a period, not a question mark.

If you want to dispel the notion that you are not intelligent, you might start by learning how to spell and punctuate your questions.

Or, you could just stop believing in a magic man who lives in the sky.

well, when I read stuff like that on here, all I think of is (immature) teenagers --- and when you think about it; What does a teenager do if they're feeling insecure?

**They poke fun at the next person, so others won't see their insecurity...**

I think non-believers are like that. They see confident Christians, read about what God is doing in their lives, see various very 'convincing' Bible references...realize they're lacking Spirituality (or at least the right kind!! lol) ...and so, in order to try to cover up their 'void' that's there where their faith should be they poke fun/insult/degrade/mock, etc...CHRISTIANS.

Little do they realize...The only ones they're belittling is: Themselves.

God told us in this world we'll have trouble...so I guess "again" the non-believers are only PROVING GOD RIGHT. lol

Way to Go!

Do you know the difference between objective and subjective? Religious people seem to take something that is very subjective and treat it as if it were objective. It is not a fact that hell exists. It is not a fact that if you believe in Jesus Christ you will be reborn. You are being controlled and manipulated. Wake up.
